Madeline at the White House: Review and Giveaway

When I became pregnant with my children, one of the first things I started doing was adding children’s books to our home.   As an avid reader and teacher, I know that reading to your children is one of the most important things a parent can do.  Ludwig Bemelmans’ Madeline classics were some of the first books I picked up.  I love them for the precious illustrations and kids love the predictable, rhyming text and reading all about the mischief of Madeline.   The books have been around since I was a girl, but for today’s children, Penguin Group Publishing will release Madeline at the White House on January 25, 2011.

Madeline at the White House was written by John Bemelmans Marciano, Ludwig’s grandson.  Faithfully keeping his grandfather’s style of writing and illustrating in mind, Mr. Marciano has added his own spirit and vision to the newer Madeline books.  From the website:  “Readers will see Washington, D.C., as never before, when Madeline takes a midnight sightseeing tour on a magic carpet of cherry blossoms. Invited to the White House by Candle, the president’s lonely only daughter, for the annual Easter Egg hunt and roll, Madeline and the other little girls have a rollicking good time, and introduce Candle to the joys of occasionally breaking the rules. With a bouncy read-aloud text and gorgeous watercolor pictures, Madeline at the White House is in the best tradition of the beloved Madeline books.”

Because this book references the Annual Easter Egg Roll at the White House, it would be a perfect addition to your little one’s Easter Basket this year!  Your child will love the colorful, engaging illustrations and ask to hear the story again and again.   My daughter loved the book and enjoyed hearing about some of the well-known places in our Nation’s Capital.  I remember visiting the White House as a child and reading this book to her took me back!
