007 My precious pearls

Baking with Bridgette: Cupcake Balls

For those of you that know me, the title of this post is probably quite comical. It is well known that I do NOT belong in the kitchen. I am the girl who burns toast, ruins the slice and bake cookies and has trouble boiling water.

I decided it is about time to gain some confidence in the kitchen. With my girls getting older, I am sure I will be asked to send treats to school for birthdays or holiday parties, so I have to find MY specialty.  So, I am starting a series called “Baking with Bridgette” where I will be trying out recipes and learning my way around the kitchen.

I would LOVE to do some giveaways with this new feature! If you have a kitchen product you would like me to showcase, please send an email to notsoblog @ gmail dot com. I would love to try out some new kitchen gadgets as I vlog my experience to share with my readers.

Have an easy recipe you think I should try?  Send it in!  I am willing to take a look and see if I can attempt it.

This first episode is Cake Balls! I saw this recipe on Bakerella. Have you seen this site?? It is AMAZING! This lady is incredibly talented and every time I look at her blog, I get hungry! If you would like the exact recipe I show in this vlog, click here.   With no further ado….Baking With Bridgette: Cupcake Balls.  Try not to laugh.

Review and Giveaway: Exergen TemporalScanner

Using an ear thermometer to take an infant’s temperature:  difficult

Using an ear thermometer to take an infant’s temperature who has an ear infection:  impossible

Finding the Exergen TemporalScanner:  a godsend!

My girls are no strangers to ear infections.  We have spent many nights in tears trying to get an accurate temperature reading with an ear thermometer.  Fortunately, the Family Review Network introduced me to the Exergen TemporalScanner, a non-invasive thermometer which uses infared technology to measure temperature with one quick and easy stroke across the forehead.  In addition to being easier, the temporal scanner has been proven to be more accurate than ear thermometers.

How is this possible?  The process is explained at the website:

First it scans like a video camera, capturing naturally emitted infrared heat from the arterial blood supply at about 1000 “frames” per second, locking in the highest temperature it senses and;

Second, at the same time, a patented system measures the ambient temperature of the site where the temperature is being taken. The patented “arterial heat balance” (AHB) software then synthesizes the two separate readings to accurately determine and display body temperature.”

exergen Using the temporal scanner was so easy.  To use, you simply press the scan button and touch the sensor to the middle of the forehead.  Keeping the button pressed, move the scanner across the forehead to the temple and release.  Last week, Lily was sick with a stomach virus, so I had the opportunity to really test out the product.  What I really loved is that I could take her temperature while she was sleeping without waking her up!  Now that she has recovered, she agreed to let me show you how the temporal scanner works.

It really is THAT easy!

I also wanted to mention that when I took Lily to the pediatrician, I was surprised to see that the practice uses the very same Exergen Temporal Scanner! Now I KNOW that I will have the same temperature reading as my pediatrician.

Want to try it out?  One lucky reader will win an Exergen TemporalScanner of their very own!

How to enter:

1.  Visit Exergen and tell me why you want to try this product!

Review and Giveaway: Coconut Groove

One of my favorite things to review are new children’s music CDs.  I love to play the songs and watch how my girls react.  It is always so much fun to see how their little minds interpret the music and watch how it makes them move….or in this case, GROOVE!

We were sent a copy of Coconut Groove by Nick Deysher.  This CD, inspired by the lush tropics of Nick’s backyard, blends a variety of styles and genres including rock, pop, funk, blues and jazz.  The album has 13 tracks with songs ranging from “Don’t be a rude Boy” to the award winning “The Dinosaur Song.”

One of the things I liked about this album is several interludes are included where Nick plays guessing games with his listeners.  I found that it kept Lily engaged because she was trying to find out the answers to the questions during the song.  Musically, it is more laid back and mellow than some other CD’s we have previewed, but it still got Lily up and moving, especially her favorite song, “Coconut Groove.”

Want the chance to groove?  Nick has generously offered one reader their very own copy of Coconut Groove!

How to enter:

1.  Listen to some of the tracks of Coconut Groove and let me know which is your favorite!

Review and Giveaway: Kidmondo

When Lily was born, I decided to make her an elaborate scrapbook journaling her first year of life.  I went to classes and cropping sessions and really made a nice book, if I do say so myself! LOL!  Then came Aubrie.  My life was now jam-packed and I no longer have time to sit down and spend hours putting together a nice book for her.  I have had some major Mommy guilty moments about this and I have been searching for an easier way to make a keepsake she will treasure forever.

kidmondo_logo_color3d When I was contacted about Kidmondo, I was eager to take a look and see if this was the solution!  Kidmondo is a FREE (does it get better than that?!?) service which gives busy parents a way to record their child’s first smile, first step and their everyday adventures in a secure online journal. I feel like I spend a good part of my day online anyway, so Kidmondo seems like a great idea!  In addition, users not only record milestones and upload images, but also keep track of medical records and store other pertinent information on their child.

This program has special sections for journalling, dental records, doctor appointments, growth charts, pictures, videos and an interactive timeline.  I also love the fact that you can share all or parts of your online book with friends and family….it’s your choice how much you share!

Another great feature is that you can turn your online journal into a beautifully printed baby book to pass along to your child or give as gifts.  The soft cover books are priced at $28 and laminated hard cover books are only $38!  Each book includes 20 pages of memories and additional pages can be bought for $0.50 each.

kidbook_med Are you seriously behind on your baby books?  Get caught up with Kidmondo!  They are generously offering one lucky reader a free Kidbook!

How to enter:

1.  Take a Tour of Kidmondo and let me know what is your favorite feature!

Wordless Wednesday

Yesterday, I spoke at the Career Day for my old high school, so I included a picture of myself as a Senior in the Power Point presentation I did for them.  It was good for a few laughs!
