Sniffles and Sneezing and Stuffy OH MY!

It’s that time of year again (and I’m not talking about Christmas). The season every Mother dreads……the cold and flu season. There is nothing worse than seeing your child in pain. Instantly, your mommy instincts kick in and you want to do anything and everything you can to make your little one better.

Unfortunately, both of my daughters have had sinus infections accompanied by the dreaded ear infection. Both Vicks and Braun had impeccable timing and shipped me the Vicks Germ Free Humidifier and the Braun ThermoScan Exact Temp Ear Thermometer for review.

Vicks, the number one brand in humidifiers, has introduced a new GermFree Humidifier that sanitizes the water for pure, clean warm mist to provide worry-free, healthful moisture for your family. The patented germicidal UV chamber safely kills up to 99.999% of bacteria, mold and spores. The latest in anti-bacterial technology, this humidifier is ideal for making dry indoor air easier to breathe, and is proven to help relieve cold and flu symptoms.

Some of the features I loved about this humidifier include: controls which make it easy to adjust the amount of humidity in the air you desire, two tanks which require less frequent filling and 24 hours of continuous operation, and the fact that you can add Vicks VapoSteam to the medicine cup for the added comfort of soothing Vicks Vapors for those extra stuffy nights.

My youngest, Aubrie, has had a terrible time with ear infections accompanied by fever. Moms know how important it is to get an accurate temperature reading before calling the Pedicatrician. Braun ThermoScan’s exclusive patented ExacTemp technology offers unparalled accuracy through a pre-warmed tip that minimizes the cooling effect from the introduction of a cold sensor in the ear. It also features a Guidance system that ensures proper placement in the ear.

I am in love with this thermometer. I have owned several, and I can say that this one is by FAR the best. It is so very easy to use, has a memory function so you can monitor the progress of fever, and takes readings very quickly (which is a must for wiggley infants). It can also be used from birth!

I tested the accuracy of this thermometer this week when I took Aubrie to see her Pediatrican. At the office, her temperature was 100.0 when measured with the Doctor’s thermometer. I brought the Thermoscan with me and I took a reading after the appointment, which was 100.1….very close to the Doctor’s reading.

Another great resource for Moms this cold and flu season is the website, MommyDocs! Here you will find great articles and information written FOR Moms BY Moms (and MDs)! There is also a place to send a question to the Doctors! Check it out!

Well, it’s time for more antibiotic, so I must run…..here’s to a germ-free flu season!

  1. We’re off to buy a humidifier tomorrow. Cora has a really bad case of eczema right now despite having humidifiers attached to our furnaces. Their ped suggested buying a separate humidifier for the nursery to make it extra humid. I’ll definitely look into the Vicks one! I love that you can add Vicks to it when the sniffles hit. My mom swore by Vicks, so I crave that smell when I get sick!
