Wendy’s Pick 2: Review and Giveaway

As a Mom of two young girls who also works outside the home full time, I tend to eat on the go more than I really should.  When we are running from work, to school, to dance class, and home to start homework, sometimes it is just easier to drive thru a local chain restaurant for dinner.  I do my best to choose healthy options for my kids such as white milk, apples or yogurt instead of sodas and fries, but honestly, I get tired of eating grilled chicken.

Fortunately, Wendy’s has developed a new Pick 2 menu for healthier eating on the go!  Wendy’s has been a long time innovator in providing healthy options introducing the salad bar thirty years ago.  Now, with a line of recently reinvented salads, you can  select from one of four half-sized salads including the Apple Pecan Chicken Salad, the Baja Salad, the Spicy Chicken Caesar Salad and the BLT Cobb Salad and pair it with one of seven tasty options.  Looking to stay low in calories?  Choose a Dasani water or small diet soda!  Want a heartier meal?  Pair your salad with a small chili!  You can also choose from a Chicken Wrap, small frosty, Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger, or an oven-baked potato.  Their are a ton of possibilities all for only $4.99 ending boring on the go meals.

I tried out the new Pick 2 menu at lunch and opted for the Apple Pecan Chicken Salad and small unsweet iced tea.  I absolutely loved the salad…especially the seasoned pecans!  This meal definitely beat getting the standard grilled chicken sandwich making me much more likely to pick a healthier lunch and less likely to give in to french fry cravings.

Wendy’s New Salads: Review

Because both my husband and I work full time, I find that we reach for fast food a few times a week for either lunch or dinner.  While it is certainly convenient, there isn’t much variety.  I often find myself tired of the traditional burger and longing for something different…..like a great salad.  However, ordering a salad at a fast food restaurant can be quite risky.  In my experience, these types of salads have included soggy lettuce with a presentation that looks like it’s been in the container for a week.

On my latest fast food crawl, I found myself at Wendy’s (it’s pretty close to my work).  On the window, I saw several new salads that peaked my curiosity.  Knowing that the actual product never looks like the picture, I was skeptical.  But, Wendy’s offered to have me come in and try one of the salads on them!  Nothing to lose, right?  On my next visit,  I chose the new Apple Pecan Chicken Salad which includes:

Lettuce (iceberg, romaine and spring mix), roasted pecans, Granny Smith and Red Apple slices, grilled chicken, sweet dried cranberries, crumbled blue cheese and an all-natural pomegranate vinaigrette dressing.

I will admit that I was pleasantly surprised when opening the salad….it looks delicious.  In a recent presentation done by Wendy’s, I learned that the lettuce is USA grown and goes from harvest to your store in 3-8 days.  To ensure your salad is never soggy, each store has it’s own salad spinner!  My lettuce was indeed crunchy and not soggy in the least.  My favorite part of the salad was the pecans!  Roasted with sea salt, cayenne pepper and sugar, they were divine!

Another reason I love Wendy’s new salad is that it allows for you to customize the ingredients to suit your dietary needs.  Watching your calories?  Don’t add the pecans (although that is a total waste of good pecans! LOL!) or use only one packet of dressing instead of two to remove some unwanted fat grams.

Next time you are in a hurry, but looking for something out of the ordinary, stop by Wendy’s for one of their new YUMMY salads!  Choose from Apple Pecan Chicken, Baja, Spicy Chicken Caesar, and BLT Cobb.  Don’t forget to follow Wendy’s on Twitter and Facebook to keep up with the latest news!

Wendy’s Spicy Chicken Nuggets: Giveaway

Down here in the South, we like our food SPICY!  If my lips aren’t burning by the end of a crawfish boil, it just wasn’t any good! So, when I was asked to review the new Wendy’s Spicy Chicken Nuggets, I was totally on board!

wendysMany of you know that I currently trying to lose weight on the Weight Watcher’s Momentum Plan.  I have been a huge fan  of the Wendy’s Super Value Menu because there are several items that work with my diet!  The chili is low fat and high in fiber making it an ideal food for lunch, and the chicken nuggets curb my craving for something crunchy without going totally off plan.  Since I am already a big fan of Wendy’s chicken nuggets, I wasn’t sure they could improve on the already successful recipe.

The new Spicy Chicken Nuggets are made from real, all white breast meat chicken, coated with Japanese style breadcrumbs and packed with a potent array of spices like red pepper, chili pepper, turmeric, paprika and ground mustard seed. YUM!  These nuggets definitely had a kick to them, but they were not overly seasoned.  Not only were they tasty,  I was happy to learn that the spicy nuggets are only 99 cents for 5 pieces!

If you’re craving something spicy, head over to Wendy’s and try out the new nuggets today!  To help you treat your family to the new Wendy’s products, Wendy’s is generously offering on Not-So-Blog reader a $25 Wendy’s gift card!

You can also support this cause by having your kids create a unique Father’s Day card on FrostyCard.com.  Not only can your child create an awesome card for Dad, they can print “certificates” entitling Dad to a variety of complaint-free chores to be honored by your child.  Certificates such as “Mow the lawn”, “Clean My Room”, and “Take Out the Trash” are available for printing.   For every card sent, twenty five cents will be donated to the DTFA.

This Father’s Day, give the gift of a Foster Dad to a child who desperately needs a home.  Support this initiative and feel good about honoring Dad while also making a difference in the life of a child.

Thanks to Mom Central for making me aware of this great opportunity!
