Talk Back to the T.V. Wrap-up! Watch The View!

It seems fitting that my last day to talk about The View with you is a “Day of Hot Topics!”  This is by far my favorite part of the show.  The Fab 4 (still missing Barbara Walters who plans to be back soon) were ready to roll today.  Sherri was thrilled to announce that she has gotten her dream role of playing a part in a Janet Evanovich movie that is nearing production!  Congrats Sherri!

Whoopi, still jetlagged and loopy from her flight in from Vienna, dove right into “Reality Show” fame.  Reports have surfaced that one of Tiger Woods’ mistresses will be starring in Celebrity Apprentice (gag) but recently checked into Celebrity Rehab.  Give. Me. A. Break.  So now you can contribute to a breakup of a marriage and that makes you a celebrity?  That makes me ill.  In that same vein, (or should I say “vain?”)  Spencer Pratt tells People magazine that he and wife Heidi Montag  have broken up because he wants fame and she does not.  Who else is sick of these two?  I put them in the same category as the cast of Jersey Shore, another prime example of pure garbage on TV earning more money than dedicated and hardworking teachers, research scientists looking to cure cancer, and other noble professionals who are trying to make a difference.  Can we just form some other planet where all these people can coexist without me having to look at them?

Kathy Griffin has gotten herself into hot water for some ugly comments about Senator Scott Brown.  Comments she made during her show “My Life on the D-List” included a crack about his daughters being prostitutes, which they are not.  Elisabeth said that politician’s kids are “off limits” and that if someone had made the same comments about President Obama’s daughters, people would be up in arms.  Joy shot back that things like this happen when politicians “parade” their children in front of the media.  While I agree that more exposure may put children at a bigger risk, it came off looking like Joy thinks it’s Senator Brown’s fault, WHICH IT IS NOT.  That’s like saying it’s a woman’s fault if she gets sexually assaulted for wearing a skirt that’s too short.  Wake up, Joy!  It’s all about RESPECT!

"R-E-S-P-E-C-T! Find out what it means to me!" (And Senator Brown's kids)

The next Hot Topic was something that really got my interest- a school in Massachusets is sending home “fat letters” to alert parents if their child’s Body Mass Index can mean future weight problems.  A lot of people took offense and the bottom line is, we are raising an unhealthy generation of kids.  P.E.  is often reduced or eliminated altogether, and it’s hard to keep the kids off the couch.  Whoopi made a good point that it’s a lot more expensive to shop for healthy foods like fruit and vegetables than it is to shop for junk, and that’s a fact.

We can’t have a day of Hot Topics without more dish on Mel Gibson!  His ex-wife has come out in his defense against the abuse allegations and says that despite Oksana Grigorieva’s claims, she did not experience any abuse at the hands of Mel.  Good to know…..I guess.  How much room is on this dream planet I want to exist?

Former CIA Agent,  Valerie Plame Wilson came to visit today to talk about how she became a spy.  Her identity was eventually revealed in 2003 and that ended her career in a firestorm of controversy.   Her story is very interesting and I can’t imagine having a lifestyle like hers, especially finding out she’s the mother of ten year old twins.  How she kept her secrets covered up with her close girlfriends I will never know…..I tell mine everything!  Valerie has a new documentary called “Countdown to Zero” that takes a long, hard look at nuclear weapons and the terrorists’ intent to use them.  It’s a terrifying thought.   The documentary looks incredibly thought-provoking and is in select theaters this Friday.

As this is my final post on The View, I would like to thank ABC Daytime for giving me the opportunity to be a View Ambassador.  I have really enjoyed being able to give my two cents on the shows every day and I hope you all have enjoyed reading them.  On that note, if ABC Primetime ever needs me to be a McDreamy Ambassador, look no further!  I am your woman for the job!

Please? Pretty please?

Once again, try to find some time in your schedule for The View!  Think of it as an hour to “get smart” and see what the view looks like in the world we live in!

Disclosure: As a “View Ambassador,” I was given financial compensation by ABC Daytime to write my opinions of the recent View episodes.  However, all opinions remain 100% my own.

Talk Back to the TV: Whoopi on the front lines!

Good Morning America’s weather anchor, Sam Champion and sports journalist Stephen A. Smith helped co-host today and the gang was 2 on 2, with just Whoopi and Joy at the table today from the original View crew.

Did anyone notice The View was the big news story on the Yahoo home page today?  It seems Whoopi Goldberg is catching flack for continuing to back Mel Gibson for his crazy behavior as of late.  While Whoopi agrees Mel is a “bonehead,” she does not think he is a racist.  It seems there has now been a 5th telephone recording leak to Radar Online, and the tapes have been tampered with.   Sam said there is obviously no clear winner here, and that is something I think we can all agree.  Stephen commented that Mel will have a harder time in the court of public opinion than in the regular court of justice, I think he is right!

More Hot Topics today included Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston, The Tea Party, charging big bucks on airlines for carry on bags, and the BP oil spill (a topic close to our region).  As of today, the cap was in place and working, thank God, so hopefully progress can be made in the Gulf, and fast.

Jennifer Love Hewitt was the guest today to talk about her new Lifetime movie, The Client List.  Jennifer says that in today’s economy, there are a lot of women turning to jobs of a sexual nature in order to support their families.  It’s a sad thought that in today’s world a conventional job isn’t enough to pay the bills.  Jennifer researched this role thoroughly and really devoted herself to getting it right.  The movie looks very interesting and Jennifer has certainly made a jump from her ultra wholesome days on Party of Five!  Jennifer has suffered through bad body-image publicity and she discussed how difficult that was for her.

The last guest on Thursday’s show was grown-up child star Joseph Gordon Levitt (formerly of 3rd Rock From the Sun) to talk about his new Sci-Fi movie Inception. Joseph is certainly all grown up and it’s nice to see a child star that didn’t end up going down the wrong path.  Inception has a great cast with Leonardo DeCaprio, Michael Caine, and Marion Cotilliard.  The movie looks great!  Check out Joseph now:

WOW! He's come a long way from 3rd Rock!

This week, The View has been chock-full and very interesting.  Can’t wait to tune in next week!

Talk Back to the T.V.! Watch The View with Clay Aiken!

Clay Aiken joined the crew on The View today, filling in while Barbara is finishing up her recovery.  The ladies and Clay launched into Hot Topics (which is definitely my favorite part of the show) and dove into Mad Mel once again.  It seems Mel didn’t get my memo yesterday and is still putting his manic rants out there.  Is there any way the mayor of Hollywood can issue a gag order for Mel so that he just can’t talk anymore at all?  Mr. Mayor, if you are reading this, I beg you.  Please.  I’ll fly out there myself and do it with duct tape, if you wish.  If you haven’t heard Mel putting his whole leg in his mouth, not just his foot, check out RadarOnline.com. The ladies and Clay speculate that Mel may never recover his image after losing it this time.   Whoopi wondered why Oksana went to RadarOnline first rather than go to the police?  So much speculation and tidbits of unconfirmed information.  The only confirmation I can offer is:  Mel’s lost it, y’all. I mean, we all kind of thought he lost it for agreeing to star in Lethal Weapon 4, but this time he’s really lost it.  For reals.

Can we go back and change the name of Mel's blockbuster from Braveheart to Pottymouth?

Next up on Hot Topics was the recent controversy regarding the survey sent out to service men and women regarding openly gay soldiers and how you would feel about it.  The survey was put out by the Pentagon and has offended many.

Hey, only children out there!  Did you know a recent study by Time magazine shows that it’s a myth that only children are more selfish than those individuals with siblings who have to compete for parental attention?  I will say that although some days I would have paid someone to take my two younger brothers, I am glad I was not an only, and I hope and pray my two children feel the same way.  On the same note, a recent New York  Magazine article says that there are many parents out there that claim to love their kids but hate their life.  Ouch. I hope none of the moms I know feel that way, but I will say that we all know parenthood isn’t something to be entered into lightly, or something to do just because you feel like you’re “supposed to.”  Food for thought there, boys and girls!

Rock star Bret Michaels came to visit and discuss his recent health scare after a brain hemorrhage that almost ended his life.  After years of hard living, Bret is now taking precautions to ensure he will live a long time and will have another surgery in January.  Bret talked about the possibility of being the next judge on American Idol to replace Simon.  I would love to see that! Bret also sang a song from his new album Custom Built and sounded every bit as strong as he did back in his glory days.  Need a definition of “glory days?”  See below.

Does this picture make any of you laugh as hard as I do when I see it? Now for you youngsters, back in the day, this was considered HOT. Crikey.

Wrapping up today was adorable Lisa Lillien (aka The Hungry Girl) to show everyone some easy swaps to save calories on pigs in a blanket, hot wings, potstickers, mushroom tartlets, and even some favorite summer drinks that can be found in her new book, Hungry Girl Happy Hour.

Today’s show was a great one!  I always find something interesting to think about on The View.  I have found that the more I watch, the more I get used to the girls fighting for “talk time” over each other during Hot Topics!  It’s just like when my girlfriends and I get together….none of us can get a word in edgewise.  I have sort of felt sorry for the guest co-hosts…..none of them can compete with the chattiness!  If I were co-hosting I’d have to bring a talking stick or something!  Can’t wait to see who’s chatting tomorrow on The View!

Disclosure: As a “View Ambassador,” I was given financial compensation by ABC Daytime to write my opinions of the recent View episodes.  However, all opinions remain 100% my own.

Talk back to the TV! Watch The View…Barbara is back!

The View was back live today after last week’s vacation and the women were rested and ready to let it rip.  Hot Topics first congratulated Spain for winning their first World Cup.  I am happy for Spain but also happy that I don’t have to listen to the annoying vuvuzela any longer!  The first major Hot Topic discussed was LeBron James’ decision to play for Miami Heat after much speculation that he would stick with Cleveland, where he has been for 7 years.  Cleveland owner Dan Gilbert fired back with a scathing letter detailing his sour grapes.  Whoopi and Elisabeth agreed that the owner needed to relax, as business is business.  Joy speculated that maybe the Cavaliers were sore because of all the fanfare that surrounded LeBron while he made this choice.  After all, ESPN had a one hour “announcement” special for him to be interviewed and end the speculation.  Once he announced it, Cavaliers fans burned his jersey and have turned their backs on LeBron.   Yikes. Of course, most of y’all know Bridgette and I bleed black and gold for our beloved New Orleans Saints, and although business is business, I can imagine some of our crazed fans feeling the same way about my boyfriend Drew Brees if he decided to pull up roots and go play for the enemy Falcons.  I dare not even speak of it.

My boyfriend Drew. Have we mentioned here at The Not So Blog that the WHO DATS were the Superbowl champs? Sorry, getting off track........

Next up: Mel Gibson.  For those not in the know, Mel is embroiled in a heated verbal match with the mother of his 8th child.  Although not confirmed that it’s actually Mel, Oksana Grigorieva  (the mother of the baby) has leaked racial-slur laced phone conversations to the press.  Assuming it is Mel, I will just say this:  Mel, please stop talking.  Just stop.  You’re not studly Mad Max in the Thunderdome anymore.  You’re just coming off like a washed up old man who is slightly deranged.  Just be quiet.  No more bad words, ok?   Thanks! Whoopi claims to know Mel pretty well and insists that she is not happy with what he did, but knows he is not a racist.  I will say Whoopi is a lot more understanding than I would be!  Side note:  I had almost forgotten my beloved Tina Turner was in Mad Max!  Ahhh, the 80′s.  Good times.

Maybe Aunty Entity can explain to Mad Mel why it's not nice to use racial slurs? Just sayin'!

Barbara Walters was able to join in via Skype today to check in with the ladies for the first time since having heart surgery.  Barbara looks great 2 months post-surgery and is fully recovered!  Barbara thanked all the fans for their well wishes during her recovery.   When she described the procedure she had done, I was really in awe that she has made such progress in just two months.  Barbara says that all women need to urge their doctors to give them an EKG to screen for potential heart issues.   Thanks for the heads up Barbara!  I think we can agree that all women need to take control of their health and health care.

Next Hot Topic is Jake and Vienna.  I discussed these two crazies in a previous View post.  Did y’all see the breakup interview on last week’s Bachelor? Have mercy.  Elisabeth, like me, is “addicted” to The Bachelor and all the women agreed this drama was nauseating.  Maybe we can find some remote island for Mel, Jake, and Vienna?  Serenity, NOW!

Angie Harmon stopped in to visit today and talk about her new show Rizzoli and Isles. After a long stint on Law and Order, Angie has switched to TNT for her new show, which is getting great reviews.  Angie is married to adorable NY Giants star Jason Sehorn and they have 3 beautiful girls, all under the age of 6.  Needless to say, Angie stays busy and is planning on pulling up her roots in Los Angeles and heading down South to raise her girls in a more “down home” environment.  Welcome home, Angie!

American Idol winner Lee DeWyze visited The View to talk about his rags-to-riches story of how he went from paint salesman to playing to screaming crowds of on tour.  Lee seems to be getting his footing and is working on his album which is coming out in October.  Lee sang a beautiful rendition of Halleluja -definitely one to find on iTunes.

Clay Aiken is co-hosting Tuesday!  Watch The View with  me!

Disclosure: As a “View Ambassador,” I was given financial compensation by ABC Daytime to write my opinions of the recent View episodes.  However, all opinions remain 100% my own.

Talk Back to the TV! Watch The View!

The girls at The View are off enjoying some R&R this week so we are living in re-run city, but I thought I would share today’s show details as it was a good one, and still fairly recent.

The women started out by discussing what lengths Moms should go to in order to protect their kids from the day-to-day stuff that might happen to hurt them…..everything from smashing their fingers in a non-baby-proofed cabinet to getting kicked by a playground bully.  This is a constant part of my life.  As an elementary school teacher (with children the same age) I constantly walk that fine line between intervening when things get out of hand as opposed to letting kids fight their own battles so they can learn to fend for themselves.  It’s a very, very, tough call sometimes.  Most of the time, whatever decision I make, I always re-think later and wonder if I should have done it differently.  What’s your solution?  Do y’all step in, or stay out of it?

karateKarate Kid stars Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan visited the show to talk about their hit movie.  This is a movie we haven’t made it to yet, but want to.  I didn’t realize the new Karate Kid dealt with the topic of bullying and I am glad to hear that.  I think more movies and TV shows that appeal to kids should address bullying as much as possible to continually get the message out to children about the way they should treat others.   Jackie and Jaden really seemed to have a great rapport on the set and it sounds like the new Karate Kid movie will become as well loved as the original with Ralph Macchio.  (What happened to him, by the way?)  Jaden Smith (son of superstars Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith) is one confident and funny kid for being so young.  I am sure his career will last a long time!

Kirsten Kemp Becker from TLC’s Property Ladder stopped by to talk about the ongoing property slump.  This is something that has hit my hometown pretty hard.  It’s a buyer’s market right now for sure with houses for sale everywhere!  The problem is, if you have to sell your house in order to buy another, you’re out of luck!  Very frustrating!  Kirsten showed houses in Tacoma, WA, Boulder, CO, and Pittsburg, PA, that provide a lot of bang for the buck.  Other areas where you can scoop up a lot of house for the money include several areas of Florida, Wilmington, NC, and Texas.  Also, if you have never seen Property Ladder, you need to check it out.  I love that show!alison

Style Expert Alison Deyette stopped by to talk about how to find designer labels for less by checking out your local T.J. Maxx and Marshall’s.  I will say I have found some ridiculously good buys at both places every time I go, I just have to psych myself up to go dig through it all!  All the outfits the models had one were cute!  In fact, I just went shopping yesterday and came home frustrated because I found nothing.  Might have to hit T.J. Maxx this weekend!  In the meantime, keep watching The View!

Disclosure: As a “View Ambassador,” I was given financial compensation by ABC Daytime to write my opinions of the recent View episodes.  However, all opinions remain 100% my own.

Talk Back to the TV! Watch The View on ABC!

No stranger to TV and the drama that goes with it, Kate Goesslin co-hosted The View today.   The ladies on The View gave Kate the chance to clear up some rumors about herself.  One, she says she has not had breast surgery to get her “girls”  back where they go, but just bought a new bra.  I’ll buy that.  She did  have a tummy tuck, as we all saw on her show Jon and Kate Plus 8.  She says she has not had Botox, and to that I say, WHO CARES if she did or didn’t?  I am 35 years old and I will tell you I am getting super critical of my forehead lines these days.  If I had Botox I probably wouldn’t broadcast it on TV but I’d be honest.  People who know me in real life know that I’m pretty outspoken….I’d probably run around showing everyone because I’d be so proud of my un-lined forehead!  Kate denies that she will be on an upcoming installment of ABC’s The Bachelorette.  To that I say, Amen.   I think all the speculation on Kate’s life and what she has or not had surgically comes from her dramatic transformation in the last few years:

Old Kate. Can't see, but I'd bet money she has on Mom jeans. Maybe even with elastic in the waist?

Old Kate. Can't see, but I'd bet money she has on Mom jeans. Maybe even with elastic in the waist?

Malibu Barbie Kate. Comes with Disposable Jon.

Hot Topics included the question of whether or not you should tell your mate if you have an affair but break it off.  Joy says, “Don’t ask, don’t tell.“   I hope and pray infidelity would never be something I would have to face in my own marriage, but can speak from some experience in knowing someone who went through it and eventually was able to mend her relationship.  I was glad that she had the courage to work on it, but at the same time always wondered how she ever trusted her husband again.  Maybe couples therapy from the beginning of their marriage could have helped ward off that issue?  The New York Times says we should all be using marital counseling like a checkup at the doctor.   Wonder if that could have helped Jon and Kate?

See, Jon? If you would have just gone to couples' therapy your life would be so different......

See, Jon? If you would have just gone to couples' therapy your life would be so different......

See? Your wife Kate is inside making dinner....all is calm...betcha don't even hear those 8 kids running like banshees through the house......

See? Your wife Kate is inside making dinner....all is calm...betcha don't even hear those 8 kids running like banshees through the house......

Red, White, and Blue fashions were displayed after the break, with Independence Day being this weekend.  Joy and Elisabeth played nicely together and showed great options for your family 4th Beach trip, Fireworks Display, or Barbeque from Tommy Hilfiger, Janie and Jack, Land’s End, Newport News, and more.  I loved everything they showed but wished they would have done this earlier in the week because if you saw something on one of the models you liked,  most people would not have time to shop tomorrow for something to wear Sunday, in my opinion.

Sunless tanning was the next segment, with Emmy-winning View makeup artist Lori Klein visiting to discuss using makeup and sunless tanning creams to get the perfect tanned look without setting foot in the sun.  I am very fair, as are my children, and I have become much more sun-conscious these days since I started seeing a dermatologist recently to take care of my skin properly (see above sadness about forehead wrinkles).  Lori talked about perfect application of these products and what I liked about her segment was how she showed both drugstore and department store self-tanners to fit every budget.  Lori even demonstrated how to use a paint roller to get those hard to reach areas without help!  I never would have thought of that!  Lori also addressed how to fix boo-boos so you aren’t running around with orange palms.  Orange palms are a dead giveaway that you got yourself some “Aruba in a Tuba.

The 4th of July conjures up many food images for all of us, and one standby is hot dogs and ice cream.  David Hoffman from Food Network stopped by to discuss the regional differences of how people serve their hot dogs.  Rhode Island serves them “up the arm” style with meat sauce and celery salt.  Southern style means “slaw dogs” with coleslaw instead of sauerkraut.  In New England?  Try a fried hot dog topped with onions, sauerkraut, mustard, relish, and bacon.  Pork on pork?  Hmmm.  I might want to check with the cardiologist about that.   Ice cream, any way you make it, is heaven to me.  David showed frozen custard, homemade Eskimo pies that looked like Heaven on a plate, and hot fudge sundaes.  YUM!

Travie McCoy showed up to send us off into the holiday weekend by belting out his hit song “Billionaire.”  His visit was a great way to wrap up a jam-packed show.  Happy 4th of July weekend, everyone! Keep watching The View!

Talk Back to the TV part 4: Watch The View!

Jesse Tyler Ferguson (ABC’s Modern Family) came to hang out with the ladies on The View today.  The ladies and Jesse wasted no time getting into Hot Topics today.  Cleansing diets were the first thing discussed, with Elisabeth being in the middle of a juice cleanse.  This was kind of a yucky conversation, I will say!  I have never done a cleanse but I know people who have and swear by them.  Apparently Gwyneth Paltrow and Jessica Simpson are no strangers to the dieting/cleansing world either, and now Gwyneth is afflicted with a condition that is a precursor to osteoporosis.  This has some wondering if her constant use of cleansing diets have contributed.  Elisabeth commented that too much of anything is never a good thing!  I guess that means a Sonic Diet Coke Cleanse is probably not something I need to be doing?

At any rate, I am starting to notice that Joy Behar has a habit of not taking anything Elisabeth Hasselbeck says or does seriously.  They are polar opposites.  While I do like both of them individually, it’s almost like Joy is the authority figure and looks at Elisabeth like she is some young dimwit.  In my opinion, most of the stuff that comes out of Elisabeth’s mouth is shut down or “pooh-poohed” by Joy.  It’s becoming kind of grating.  While I admit that Elisabeth has sparked lots of controversy over a variety of foot-in-mouth comments, I still think she’s a valuable part of the show and Joy needs to lighten up.

See Joy? Happy and Fancy-free? Not like she wants to claw Elisabeth's eyes out? This is what I like. Happy happy Joy Joy.

See Joy? Happy and Fancy-free? Not like she wants to claw Elisabeth's eyes out? This is what I like. Happy happy Joy Joy.

Did y’all hear about Kayla Martell?  She was just crowned Miss Delaware!  This might not seem unusual but Kayla has Alopecia, a condition which causes her to lose her hair.  What a beautiful testimony to not letting a physical characteristic stop you from achieving a goal.  This is one of the reasons I like The View….without Hot Topics, I would have never known about Kayla.

Uber-talented, Oscar-winning actress Helen Mirren stopped by with her husband Taylor Hackford to discuss their new movie, Love Ranch. Based on a true story, Love Ranch is about a couple who opened the first legal brothel in Nevada.  Helen and Taylor discussed their  love story, which is long-standing by today’s Hollywood standards.  The movie seems to be very thought-provoking and interesting.  Another reason to see it?  Helen Mirren’s love interest in the film, Sergio Peris-Mencheta.  **swoon**

Sergio. Needs no explanation.

Sergio. Needs no explanation.

Last on The View today was Tonya Craft, a teacher who was recently acquitted  of charges that she sexually molested her daughter and two other girls.  As a teacher myself, I can tell you this is high on the list of  being every school professional’s nightmare.  Despite passing two polygraph tests, Tonya had to stand trial and lost custody of her children in the process.  She is now working to regain her life back.  Tonya’s story is a great reminder for all parents to have appropriate discussions with their children regarding good touch vs. bad touch.  It’s something you can never assume your child’s school or anyone else will handle  for you.  We  have always had open and honest conversations with our kids about what is appropriate and we never, ever let our guard down.  Some might think we are over protective, but my school of thought is better to be safe than sorry.

Tomorrow on The View:  General Hospital cutie James Franco!  Check it out!

Disclosure: As a “View Ambassador,” I was given financial compensation by ABC Daytime to write my opinions of the recent View episodes.  However, all opinions remain 100% my own.

Talk Back to the TV: Watch The View! Whoopi’s back!

chrisbrownWhoopi Goldberg returned to The View today from “Hotlanta” where she has been shooting a movie.  Glad to have her back!  Whoopi wasted no time getting the gang started on today’s Hot Topics.  First to the fire?  Chris Brown, who gave a gut-wrenching performance this weekend at the BET Awards.  Chris sang a tribute to Michael Jackson and broke down while singing.   Elisabeth made the good point that maybe Chris broke down more due to the lyrics  (“The Man in the Mirror) rather than missing Michael.  Of course, she is referencing Chris Brown’s assault charge last year with his girlfriend Rhianna.   Sherri’s point that “actions speak louder than words” is so true.  I like Chris Brown’s music, but am tempted not to financially contribute to his sales if he can’t turn around his reputation as a physical abuser.  Do y’all feel the same way? Does reputation sway your decision to purchase from an artist?

Next up: Michael Douglas, who is no stranger to controversy, is battling it out with ex-wife over the spinoff/sequel to his Wall Street movie.  Yikes! Seems in the divorce settlement she is entitled to half of any of his future earnings for “spinoffs” he makes based on movies he made while they were married.  According to Joy, she is already got “something like $45 Million in the original divorce.”  HOLY SMOKES!

On the same note as “Celebrity Perks” it seems there were some people squawking this weekend because Jason Bateman cut in line to get his new iPhone 4.  In his defense, he started out standing in line but then was escorted in by the people at Apple.  I must say that I got used to the Celebrity treatment very quickly when Bridgette and a few other fantastic bloggers hit the Disney Lottery back in February.  But every carriage must turn into a pumpkin eventually, right?  Sigh.  I’m glad Jason got his phone.

theview

More Hot Topics today included gross Airline food, more sex abuse scandal in the church, and Sarah Palin.  Like her or not, she is very disrespected by the media and it’s a shame.  Can’t we all just get along? This discussion was a good reminder that if you have a microphone on, watch. every. word.

Next discussion: Jake and Vienna.  Ugh.  If you don’t know who they are, consider yourself lucky.  I am a huge “The Bachelor” fan but I was never a fan of Jake…or Vienna.  I am really tired of them re-cycling contestants, although if they had recycled Reid from Jillian’s season you would have gotten NO complaints from me!  As vomit-worthy as Jake and Vienna are,  I was glad for this brief discussion though because I was able to get a really good look at Elisabeth’s cute dress (I am a sucker for eyelet).  In my opinion, Elisabeth is adorable.  Hard to believe she got her start on Survivor eating bugs!  So if you are DYING to know the “dramatic” truth regarding Jake and Vienna’s breakup, you will get all the answers you need on the July 5th episode of “The Bachelor.

nikkiblonskyA guest on The View today that I really wanted to see was Nikki Blonsky.  I have seen a few print ads for her new show on ABC Family called “Huge” and I was wondering what it was all about.  One of my favorite movies ever is Hairspray and I have adored Nikki ever since.   “Huge” takes place at a weight-loss camp.  Nikki plays Will, who is an offbeat teen who cannot stand the thought of being at camp.  The clip they showed really sparked my interest and I immediately added Huge to the Tivo line up.   It will be interesting to see how Huge tackles the body-image issues so prevalent in society along with being conscious to promote good health.   Do y’all plan on watching?

Last up was self-proclaimed Osama Bin Laden hunter Gary Brooks Faulkner.  Wow. Gary is a construction worker who has traveled to the Middle East to try and find Bin Laden.  I am not sure if this guy is the bravest man I ever saw…..or the craziest.   I hope for his family’s sake he stays safe!

On tomorrow’s show: Helen Mirren and Taylor Hackford.  Tune in with me!   The View always has something exciting going on!

Disclosure: As a “View Ambassador,” I was given financial compensation by ABC Daytime to write my opinions of the recent View episodes.  However, all opinions remain 100% my own.

Talk Back to the T.V. (Part 2): Watch The View on ABC!

Got some more “me” TV time today!  The View was another home-run today with comedians D. L. Hughley and eye-candy MSNBC host Thomas Roberts filling in for Barbara and Whoopi’s absence.

view2

viewHot Topics was hot right off the bat again today with more discussion about the BP oil spill.  There was a healthy debate rolling about President Obama’s recent calling for prayer for help in regards to the oil crisis.  Apparently, comedienne Janeane Garofalo recently appreared on Joy Behar’s show and called the president “anti-intellectual” for relying on faith to help us get through this crisis.  Ouch.  At day 63 of this mess, I would be thankful for any shred of hope, prayer, or good vibe being sent to the Gulf coast, regardless of my Christian beliefs or lack thereof.  Needless to say, Joy and Elisabeth got into it about the meaning of intelligence vs. faith.   I, for one, am a proud Catholic girl, and I think “faith” is summed up simply by saying you’ve got to believe in something greater, even if you don’t have concrete proof that it’s there…..that’s why they call it FAITH.  That being said, I do respect other’s beliefs even when they are different from mine.  Religion and beliefs is a sure-fire way to get a debate going, that’s for sure.  Today was no exception.  Looks like this topic sparked some debate on The View message boards as well.  What do y’all think?

I like Joy Behar, but she reminds me a lot of the brash and rowdy Aunt we all have in our families…..she’s got her opinion and she’s not going to stop until she drowns you out and gets her point across.  Elisabeth seems to take the most heat from her but she does a pretty decent job of sticking to her guns!  I think Sherri does a good job of being the happy medium.  While she has her opinions she does a fantastic job of being the soothing calm in the storm….always trying to give her thoughts while empathizing with the other side.

Hot Topics shifted gears pretty quickly to discussion of “sugar daddies”, legal sentencing for those who are caught with child pornography, and blood donation for gay men. Yikes!  I think many of these topics are obviously huge ones and maybe needed to be spaced out for a more thorough debate rather than having them both brought up on one day.  They kind of got “glossed over” for lack of time.

Today’s first guest was Good Morning America journalist, George Stephanopoulos who gave his take on some of today’s top headlines.  Again, the oil spill was brought to the forefront, along with the President’s recent decision to recall General McCrystal from Afghanistan over some flack from a Rolling Stone Magazine interview.  I will admit this had flown under my radar so seeing this on The View immediately prompted me to do a little research and find out more.  Thanks, Google!

On a lighter note, Jeffrey Donovan came to hang out for a bit at the end of the show to talk about his hit series “Burn Notice.” This show looks great!  I haven’t seen it but it looks like something my husband and I would like to watch.  Jeffrey’s visit was a nice way to take the heat off the super-charged discussions that dominated most of the time on today’s show.  I do like how The View finds a way most days to end on a happy note, even when the claws have been out for the majority of air time!

Did you know you can follow The View on Twitter? Looks like Elisabeth will be moderating on Wednesday.  This will definitely be interesting!  Can’t wait to see how Joy handles having Elisabeth in charge!  I am betting Elisabeth will be eating her Wheaties in the morning!  :)

Talk Back to the TV! Watch The View on ABC!

In the summer I have a lot more TV time for myself.   Once the kids are in bed, I like to unwind and check out what’s on the tube.  I love daytime TV but in the summer the kids and I are on the go, so the DVR is my best friend.  One of my can’t-miss shows these days is The View on ABC.   I tend to like talk shows that offer a variety of subjects and opinions, and The View fits that bill.   The View contrasts the experience and wisdom of legend Barbara Walters (although out on medical leave for the time being), Whoopi Goldberg, and Joy Behar, with the younger perspective of Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Sherri Shepherd.  All of the women have strong, intelligent opinions and have no problems letting everyone know them!

Monday’s episode started out with general chit-chat, which is always fun to hear.  Today, “Dancing With the Stars” host Tom Bergeron and funny man Jay Mohr were pinch-hitting for Barbara and Whoopi, who is on vacation.  The male perspective shook things up a bit and that was a nice change.  While the group talked about what they did for Father’s Day weekend, the men offered quick-witted responses to the girls’ banter.  I was cracking up at Jay and Joy shooting barbs back and forth at each other.   Jay Mohr has flown under my radar for awhile, but he really is funny!  I would like to see more of him!

The View does a good job at bringing to the surface the “Hot Topics” making headlines and today was no different.   Close to my heart, the big topic I want to hear about these days is the BP oil spill off the Louisiana coastline.  The group discussed whether or not President Obama and BP exec Tony Hayward have any business spending time playing golf or racing a yacht with the Gulf waters in peril.  This was a hot-button issue for sure as right-winged Elisabeth gets fired up when it comes to the Democratic way of thinking.  While I do enjoy hearing varied opinions, sometimes the discussions between the ladies gets so heated that for one, you can’t discern what each of them are saying because they are all talking/yelling over each other, and two, you sometimes feel like you are intruding on a private conversation….kind of like watching an argument between your parents!   Either way, the back-and-forth verbal match is always cooled off in a few minutes, and does offer even the most staunch ideas a “tweak” of understanding as to how the other side thinks.  Differences make the world go ’round, right?  I know whether we are right or left, we can all agree that the Oil crisis is something that needs ALL of our immediate attention, and soon.

HawthorneBoxArt_200Today’s guest was Jada Pinkett-Smith, wife to one of my favorite actors, Will Smith.  Jada is a busy wife and mother these days, with her son starring in The Karate Kid and her own series, HawthoRNe, on TNT.  Jada talked about the balance between career and family, which is something we can all relate to on some level.  Jada recently posed for the cover of Essence magazine and looks beautiful, naturally.  She is adorable and seems so “real.”  I liked hearing what she had to say about her family and making sure to set aside quality time with her husband to keep things in good balance.

After Jada’s visit, A.J. Khubani, the CEO of Telebrands, stopped by to show off some of his latest products.  I laughed out loud as Sherri, Tom, and Jay demo-ed Crazy Critters, Neckline exerciser, Bare Lifts, and the Shake Weight.  This part of the show was much more relaxed and helped to end things on a funny and lighthearted note than a controversial discussion.   Sherri was hysterical ad-libbing some “risque” activity with the Neckline and Jay picked right up and brought the house down in laughter.

One thing is for sure, the women of The View are smart, funny, and enjoy each other’s company, despite their differences.  Coming up later this week are the hilarious David Spade and Chris Rock, and the talented Jeremy Piven.  Can’t wait to watch!  Tune in with me!
