Switch to Silk Challenge: Days Nine and Ten

We did it!  We made it through the Switch to Silk Ten Day Challenge!  To be honest, I thought this journey would be more difficult that it turned out to be.  My girls and my husband had absolutely no problems with the switches we tried in the kitchen and I was quite happy about cutting back on some of the calories!

I have to say, my favorite switch was was one day one of the challenge when I made triple berry smoothies with my girls! But, we had many great swaps throughout the project.  On day nine, we decided to make our most popular brownie recipe using the Original Silk, took the dish to a party and they were a hit (shhh…I’m actually having another right now!).

Finally, on the last day of the challenge, we opted to go back and try the PureAlmond Dark Chocolate that my daughter loved so much and use it to make hot chocolate this time.  By adding some whipped cream and even some mini-chocolate chips, we had a decedent treat perfect for before bedtime!

I hope you all learned some great tricks and tips on how to integrate Silk Soymilk into your daily routine….it’s a lot easier than you think!  I will leave you with some final thoughts on the project:

Switch to Silk Challenge: Days 6, 7 and 8

We’ve made it to the second half of our Switch to Silk Ten Day Challenge!  We tried baking with Silk Original in the last installment, and for the second half of the experiment, we decided to try substituting Silk in some of our tried and true recipes.  These recipes are staples in our home, so I decided to see if making the Silk switch would effect our daily routines.

On Day Six, we woke up and made our traditional pancake breakfast.  Instead of adding milk, we used Silk Original.  The pancakes still cooked to a golden brown and had the same consistency of our usual pancakes.  Neither of my girls were any the wiser and ate breakfast without complaint.

For dinner on Day Seven, we had grilled chicken and a alfredo macaroni and cheese dish. I would love to say that I made the mac and cheese from scratch, but if you read this blog, you know better.  However, instead of using 3/4 cup of our normal 2% milk, I used the Silk Original in this recipe.  Again, the sauce thickened as expected and the family ate every bite (and even asked for seconds).

On the weekends, we treat the girls to a movie night and have a camp out in our living room.  Sometimes we have popcorn, but on Day Eight, I decided to surprise them with a vanilla pudding with chocolate sauce for dessert.  I used the Silk Vanilla Soymilk as a substitute for the fat free milk we traditionally use.  Watch the video to see how it went:

Our Ten Day Switch to Silk Challenge has been much easier than expected!  I haven’t had one instance of complaining from the family!  In a few days, I will show you how Day 9 and 10 went and wrap up our challenge!  How’s your Challenge going?

Switch to Silk: Days 3, 4 and 5 with Silk Original

After trying (and loving) our regular smoothie mix with Silk Soymilk during our Switch to Silk Challenge, I thought for this next challenge I would try baking with it, too.  My friend told me that you could not bake with soymilk, so I thought I would do a little experiment of my own to test out her theory.  Here are the results:

One of the first things my hubby and I do in the morning is make a cup of coffee or hot tea (I am so not a coffee person).  We usually grab for creamer or milk for our beverage, but today decided to try the Silk Original which is lower in cholesterol than our regular creamer.  My husband was not a fan of the change, but it was very delicious in my English Breakfast hot tea.

On Day Four, I continued finding easy swaps for Silk Original and decided to try it in my daughters’ favorite breakfast cereal.  I thought the color would throw them off a bit, but mixed with the cereal, they didn’t seem to notice.  No one complained and finished their cereal as usual.

I hope you are joining me on the Switch to Silk journey!  Do you have any great ideas for the swap?  Share them with other Silk lovers by using #SwitchtoSilk on Twitter.  And while you’re here, make sure you enter my Silk giveaway, too!

Day Two was actually quite easy!  I switched one of my daughter’s daily milk cups to the Dark Chocolate PureAlmond Milk.  She was immediately in love and hasn’t asked for the old milk since!  Check out this serious milk mustache!
