Macy’s Elf Adventure {$250 Gift Card Giveaway}

There are a few things that are a given on Thanksgiving Day in my home.

  • I will eat turkey.
  • My husband will watch football.
  • I will eat more turkey (and some chocolate pie).
  • We will all watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade!

As far back as I can remember, I have watched the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in awe of the Rockettes, Santa and of course the high-flying balloons. To be totally honest, the kid in me really wants to be one of those balloon holders (or maybe even a Rockette). But if I can’t be in the parade, I’d love to be at the parade! While this parade is much different that my beloved Mardi Gras, it is definitely on my bucket list.

This year, Macy’s is giving one of their Fans plus three guests a trip to New York City to attend the Thanksgiving Day parade! From the press release:

“More than 10,000 of Macy’s Parade’s ever-rambunctious elves have magically taken residence at Macy’s stores nationwide and at locations in select cities. Fans who find one of Macy’s hidden elves, give it a makeover and submit their design to Macy’s Elf Adventure Facebook application could see their elf design transformed into a flying wonder and watch it soar in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade! In addition, the winner and three guests will receive a trip to New York City to see the Parade live.”

How do you find a rambunctious elf?

From August 9-24, 2011, look for clues on Macy’s Facebook page and via Twitter @macysevents or follow the hashtag #macyself. Daily clues will be posted along with a password. Once you figure out the riddle, whisper the password to a Macy’s department sales associate who will then reward you with a coveted elf. The daily clue and password can also be received by texting* ELF to MACYS (62297). Elves can also be found frolicking in 10 cities hosting Macy’s Elf-Apolooza, a fun filled event for the entire family.

I have an elf. Now what?

Let your imagination run wild! Design your elf, take detailed pictures of the front and back and submit your design by completing the Elf Application after “Liking” Macy’s on Facebook. The application will ask for the identification serial number found on the packaging of your official Macy’s Elf and all applications must be received by Wednesday, August 24th at 11:59:59 PM EST.

From the received entries, a judging panel from Macy’s Parade & Entertainment Group will narrow down the entries to the Top 85. These entries will be posted on Macy’s Facebook page on Tuesday, August 30th when voting begins. The Elf design with the most votes as of Wednesday, September 6th at 11:59:59 PM ET, will be announced in mid-September. And of course, the winning design will be transformed by the Macy’s Design Studio into a high-flying helium balloon!

Macy’s Million Dollar Makeover and $50 Macy’s Gift Card Giveaway

Last week, I had to run to the grocery store for a few staple items.  It was a quick trip and I was in a hurry, so I threw on some sweatpants and an old tshirt and I was out the door.  While running  threw the aisles looking for granola bars, it actually did cross my mind that I looked so bad that I could certainly be singled out by the stars of TLC’s “What Not to Wear!”  Don’t you just love that show?

Clinton Kelly, one of the stars of the show, is also Macy’s Style Expert…who knew? Could you use some style advice?  Now you can tell Macy’s and Clinton Kelly why you deserve a MILLION DOLLAR MAKEOVER by uploading photos or videos no later than January 31, 2011.  In early February, eight submissions will be chosen to win a personalized makeover with Clinton Kelly himself which will be filmed. In March, the videos will go live and open voting will begin to determine the Million Dollar Makeover Winner!

So, if you are in desperate need of some style advice or a complete overhaul, “like” Macy’s on Facebook and start pleading your case!

First Impressions Fall Line: Review and Giveaway

With Fall in full swing (well, maybe not here in New Orleans, but it’s Fall everywhere else!), it’s time to break out the long sleeves, pants and light jackets.  I recently received a gift set (6-9 months, baby girl) from First Impressions, and while our little ones need to be warm, I learned that you don’t have to sacrifice cuteness!  About First Impressions:

The gift set that I received included an adorable winter dress from the Satin Hanger Collection (perfect for Christmas Eve), a four piece layette set from the Everyday Value Collection and a pink plush teddy bear.  The gift set comes boxed very nicely with tissue paper, perfect for gift giving.  All of the pieces are well made and the layette set is incredibly soft, too!  This is actually the third First Impressions Gift Set I have seen and I have not been disappointed by the quality in any of their collections.  I would highly recommend this gift set for the baby on your gift list this year.

I love shopping.  Before I had kids, I would go to the mall alone, stroll the stores and take look at the next season’s trends.  After kids….not so much.  I no longer have time to leisurely stroll the mall and search out the hippest styles, so I rely on stores that make it easy to find something special, like Macy’s!  Fortunately, a brand new Macy’s opened up at a mall near my home which allows me to shed my Mom gear and easily find some fabulous new looks.

On September 12th, Macy’s debuted a brand new commercial giving viewers a glimpse backstage as celebrities such as Sean “Diddy” Combs, Jennifer Lopez and Martha Stewart create “magic” to dazzle Macy’s customers.

First Impressions Baby Apparel: Review and Giveaway

This coming weekend, we are throwing a baby shower in honor of my sister-in-law (don’t worry, it’s not a surprise!).  Looking through her registry, there are so many cute items for my soon to be niece that I had a hard time selecting a gift that would be  beautiful, functional and unique.   I know that my niece will need clothes (as her closest sibling is almost 6 years old), so I was delighted to try out the sets from First Impressions.  About the brand:

The gift set I had the opportunity to sample included an outfit from the Satin Hanger Collection, a five-piece layette set from the Everyday Value Collection and an adorable plush animal.  When I opened the box, my eye immediately went to the outfit in the Satin Hanger Collection (which obviously hangs on a sating hanger, ha!).  It is the most adorable gray dress with embellishments and white cotton capri pants.  The layette set is so incredibly soft and the plush doll finishes off the gift with a cuddly touch!

Combining the outfits and doll will make a cute and memorable baby shower gift!  I can’t wait for this weekend!

With the weather changing, I have started to pack away the winter clothes and organize the Spring outfits.  It’s no secret that this science geek does not have a natural sense of style.  When I shop, I like to look at magazines and mannequins for guidance on the season’s hottest looks.  I am no Stacy London!

However, if you have a knack for putting together outfits that are sure to turn some heads, you definitely want to check out Macy’s Fashion Director Daily Fashion Challenge.  From the press release:

The interactive outfit maker lets you combine the season’s hottest fashions and accessories to style, shop, and share the perfect look. From putting together an outfit for a blind date to selecting the perfect look for a big work presentation, the challenges will mirror everyday situations, as well as special occasions.

I took the opportunity to try my hand at picking out an outfit for today’s challenge: Get dressed for cocktails with your colleagues! I got to shift through lots of tops, pants, handbags, necklaces and shoes in order to mix and match the perfect outfit.  What did I pick?  Check out my skills (humor me, ok)!  It was easy to share my outift via Twitter, Facebook and email to solicit votes.
