Stay Warm with Land’s End Outerwear

The blazing New Orleans summers have recently given way to milder temperatures as we welcome Fall!  In fact, today ushered in one of our first cold fronts of the season and temperatures barely reached 65.  However, looking through pictures on Facebook today, I see that many Northern friends are seeing their first snowfall.  While we won’t be seeing snow anytime soon (or ever), colder temperatures are on the way!

Living in New Orleans, we don’t need snow pants or down outerwear.  But layering definitely serves us well as we brave cold temperatures on the parade route at Mardi Gras.  I have purchased many items from Land’s End in the past and have always been happy with the quality and performance so I was thrilled to receive a women’s ThermaCheck 200 Parka to review. About the parka:

Our parka is destined to be a valuable layering piece. The superior performance of ThermaCheck®-200 fleece blocks the wind, keeps you warm and toasty. Parka’s styling details include a zip front with an adjustable hood and drawcord waist. Zippered side pockets.”

The first thing I noticed about the parka is the softness.  It is by far the softest jacket I own!  After putting it on, it seems to be true to size and I love the princess seaming and drawcord waist which give the garment more shape than a typical winter piece.  I also love that it has a hood which will be great for blocking the wind!

The ThermaCheck 200 Parka is rated for temperatures between 10° to 30° Fahrenheit, but if your climate gets colder than ours, you definitely need to check out the selection at Land’s End.  My sister in law, who recently moved to Canada, loves the lightweight silk layering piece to hold in body heat. Or why not accessorize with a pretty scarf?

As I expected, I love my Parka from Land’s End.  I can wait to snuggle up in it’s softness just as soon as the temperatures dip a bit more.  Don’t miss any great deals by “liking” Land’s End on Facebook!

Back to School with Land’s End {Review}

Believe it or not, both of my daughters are back in school already!  This year is a little bittersweet for me because my youngest is going to “big girl school” with her sister and entering Pre-K (3).  Yep, my baby is going to school!  We are definitely still in an adjustment period, but she is doing well (and I am getting used to it, too!).

To prepare my little ones for a successful school year, I went straight to Land’s End to purchase their backpacks.  My oldest daughter has been using Land’s End backpacks for a few years now and I love the quality, function and sizes available. My favorite feature is that there are several sizes to choose from based on your child’s height and workload….even one for my preschooler.  Matching lunch boxes are also available in plenty of adorable patterns and you can even personalize each item with monograms, embroidery, heat transfers and numbers to make their belongings stand out in the crowd.

Because I actually already purchased Land’s End backpacks and lunch boxes for my two daughters, I decided to take a look at the new Fall Collection.  My girls wear school uniforms, so on the weekends they love to show their sense of style.  My oldest chose a Girl’s Long Sleeve Oxford Shirtdress in Pink Stripes to review.  We live in New Orleans where it is still reaching close to 100 degrees, so I love that this dress has sleeves that can be rolled above the elbow but adjusted to long length when Fall arrives.  The material and construction is quite sturdy and I expect it to last long enough for my second daughter to wear in a few years.  The belt gives the dress a sassy look!   It is a bit long for her right now, but I ordered a size up because I would like her to be able to wear it throughout the winter.  Some of my other back to school favorites are:

If you are preparing for back to school like we are, check out Land’s End for backpacks, outerwear, gender-specific uniforms and fall apparel.  I’ve already prepared for the winter months by purchasing some of the Cozy Cable Knit leggings for my girls!

The Newly Redesigned Man’s Polo from Lands’ End: Review and Giveaway

My loving hubby is many things…..thoughtful, honest, funny, and handsome to name a few.  But, one word that would NOT describe him is clotheshorse.  I have tried for years to impress upon him the value of well made clothing and while I have made strides, I don’t think he fully believes me…..yet.  So, I was thrilled to be able to let him review the newly reinvented Man’s Polo from Land’s End.

I have long known the quality of Lands’ End clothing having ordered outfits and swimsuits for my daughters and myself.  I have been able to pass down clothes from my oldest daughter to my youngest because of the superior construction and durability.  My husband received the Man’s Polo in Red just in time for the Father Daughter Sweetheart Dance and my daughter’s school this weekend.

The Loves of my Life.

Some of the new features of the new design can be seen in the following video and include:

  • Jersey-taped seams on the neck and shoulders add comfort
  • Fabric that is heftier and softer than ever before
  • No-curl collar that lies flat wash after wash

So did my hubby love it?  For starters, he wasn’t thrilled with the color, but it was perfect for the dance.  He did like several of the other colors available including the dark cobalt blue.  However, he really did like the design and overall quality of the shirt.  He commented that “for a polo shirt, it wasn’t itchy at all” and “the design did not pull at my shoulders which made it much more comfortable to wear.”

I think he may be a convert!  I have a feeling he will be buying more of the Lands’ End Polo shirts in the future!

Warm Up with a Land’s End Coat: Review and Giveaway

Land's End CoatDown here in New Orleans, you never know what the winter may bring.  Some years, we gather around the Thanksgiving table in shorts and other years we are bundled up by Halloween.  While it is definitely not wise for us to by snow gear, I do like to have a heavy coat for the kids just in case the weather demands it.

Some years, our coats get a lot of use, but others leave them hanging in the closet the entire season.  I hate to spend a ton of money on a coat that my kids will grow out of before the next season when we may or may not need it.  So, when I saw the Grow-A-Long® sleeves in the Land’s End Girl’s Expedition Parka, I was intrigued.  Land’s End sent us this coat to try out and I actually think we will get more than one winter out of this coat.  The sleeves extend up to 1.5″ which in turn will extend the life of the jacket.  Of course, this isn’t the only fabulous feature of this coat!  From the website:

Our warmest, waterproof performer — styled for girls.

  • TEMPERATURE RATING: WARMEST -20°/15° Fahrenheit.
  • Waterproof, windproof, 3-ply nylon shell, with DriOff™ finish
  • Exceptionally warm 600 fill power down insulation, nature’s warmest
  • New! Grow-A-Long® sleeves extend up to 1.5 inches to fit them as they grow
  • SnowGuard wrist cuffs: an interior sleeve extension lets them slip their thumb through the cuff, keeping out cold and snow
  • EZ-Zip Tab makes zipping themselves up easier
  • 360° reflective trim for better visibility
  • Parka length hits below the hip”

Land's End CoatWhen we received the coat, my daughter could not wait to try it on….even though it was 80 degrees outside!  She loved the color, the style and the feel of the coat.  As a Mom, one of my favorite features (besides the Grow-A-Long Sleeve) is the SnowGuard Wrist Cuffs.  The cuffs are attached to the sleeve which makes the fingerless gloves impossible to lose.  Also, the hand warmer sheath in each front pocket which secures a hand warmer is an awesome addition.  Both of these features are great for Mardi Gras season to keep hands warm as we dive for beads!  I also like that the hood is removable because during most New Orleans winters, the faux fur lined hood is overkill.

Overall, we love the Girl’s Expedition Parka from Land’s End.  While we have yet to try it out in cold weather, I am confident that it will keep my daughter warm with the quality and features I have come to expect from Land’s End.  This coat can be purchased for $99.50.

Lands End Backpacks: Review

hypothesis A backpack from Lands End will be the perfect way to send my daughter off to her very first day of Kindergarten.

materials

One Girls’ Solid ClassMate SmallHaul backpack in pink, and one five year old who cannot wait to step into her new Kindergarten classroom.  About the backpack:

“ClassMate® SmallHaul is designed & tested to carry everything a younger grade-schooler needs for class and more. Features like two big compartments, a removable organizer pouch, and mesh water bottle pockets keep everything in their place. Plus, it has a durable 600-denier polyester body with 1200-denier base that will hold up to all the rigors of a long school year.
Other features include:

  • Padded C-shaped shoulder straps are comfortable & fit better
  • Padded back panel for comfort
  • What it fits: binder, folder, textbook, 2 notebooks, snowpants, sweatshirt/jacket, hat, gloves, shoes
  • Small exterior zippered pocket keeps extras handy”

results My daughter attended her current school last year for preschool where she had to bring a school tote bag.  So this year as she enters kindergarten, she was so excited to learn that got to select her own backpack!  Because I already knew the quality of Lands End clothing from making several purchases in the past, I was excited to get the opportunity try the backpacks.

Lily and I sat down with the Lands End catalog.  I directed her to the section of backpacks specifically made for her age.  As a Mom, I love that the backpacks are sized for different ages and book loads.  Lily is small and having a huge high school book bag would just not work.  She quickly selected the ClassMate SmallHaul Solid, in pink of course (is there any other color, really?).

Photobucket

When it arrived, she could not wait to stuff it with her new school supplies.  We found the two pockets useful in order to separate her folders from her pencil case and glue.  She also found it amusing that she can carry at water bottle in the side mesh pockets.  She has been wearing her backpack to school for almost two weeks and is loving it!  I was a bit worried that she would ultimately think it was “uncool” because there was no cartoon character or princess on the front, but she feels like a big girl with this sturdy backpack and could not be happier.

hypothesisIf you are in the midst of back to school shopping, check out the great selection of boys and girls backpacks designed for kids ages 3 and up (the TinyTake packs are precious!).  The backpack we reviewed is now on sale for $19.95 and I am thinking or ordering a second one to keep for the future!  While your at Lands End, take a look at the Fall Collection, too!
