Mama Wants Her Body Back DVD: Review and Giveaway

From the time I was born until about the age of 25, I was thin.  I never had to watch what I ate mainly because I was a dancer and burned calories like crazy.  I became pregnant with my first daughter at the age of 29 and managed to only gain about 20 pounds (thanks to gestational diabetes, ugh).  However, even though I managed to take the weight off fairly quickly, my body was NOT the dancer’s body to which I was accustomed.  After the birth of my second daughter in 2008, things continued to go downhill.  My metabolism was never the same and my abs continue to be non existent.   Guess what?  This Mama wants her body back!!

Recently, I was introduced to the “Mama Wants Her Body Back!” DVD series and was more than willing to give it a try.  Because I work outside the home, run this blog, and raise two children, I have little time for exercise.  The fact that this series can be done from the comfort of my living room at a schedule that is convenient for me is ideal.  A little about the program:

“Whether you just recently had a baby or have been carrying around extra pregnancy weight for a while, the new Mama Wants Her Body Back™ from mother and fitness instructor Lisa Druxman is your solution.  Lisa’s takes her expertise in pre and post natal fitness to the next level and precision sculpts arms, abs and butts. This fitness program is intended specially for moms and addresses the biological changes to the body that occur throughout pregnancy.

The Mama Wants Her Body Back program includes three 20-minute total body workouts and a bonus DVD of three 10-minute abs workouts. To further help you practice a healthier lifestyle, a program guide and food journal are also included.  The entire package is just $9.99+S&H and available at www.mamawants.com. Lisa Druxman, M.A. has been in the fitness industry for 20 years. She is the creator of Stroller Strides and Fit4Baby and the author of Lean Mommy.”

After my daughters were asleep, I decide to pop in the first ten minute ab workout video because I feel like this is what I need the most work on.  I managed to get through the entire video (ok, I had to stop once, but it was a quick break).  I love the fact that Lisa has assistants who demonstrate the various levels of difficulty so it is easy to modify the exercise to suit your needs.  I was proud that I made it through the session and I didn’t feel very sore….until the next day! HOLY MOLY did my abs burn!  So I knew that the exercises geared towards my lower tummy pooch made a difference!

I have been doing the 20 minute cardio and 10 minute abs for about 2 weeks now. I do not expect to see physical differences so quickly (I will spare you the pictures), but I can tell you that I can complete the exercises easier now than when I started.  I am building endurance and burning calories!  In addition to the DVD, you will also receive instructions on how to tailor the program as well as tips to eat healthy and a journal.

The DVD series can be purchased for $42.97!  Much cheaper than a gym membership!

Disney’s A Christmas Carol in 3D on Blu-ray!

One of the best things about the holiday season sharing traditions and making new memories with loved ones.  My family is still young, so we are making new traditions of our own that hopefully we will share for many years to come.  For starters, we make decorating the Christmas tree a family event.  Hot chocolate (with marshmallows, of course!) is served and pajamas are worn as we relive the memories of each ornament placed on the tree.  After the tree is decorated, we put on a holiday themed movie and spend the evening together (last year we watched Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas, remember that one?). A christmas carol

This Tuesday, November 16th, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment debuts its first Blu-ray™ 3D release with the unique interpretation of Charles Dickens’ beloved tale, A Christmas Carol, starring Jim Carrey.   While my children are a bit young for this holiday classic, families with tweens and teens would love it!  Carrey plays multiple characters including the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge and the Ghosts of Christmases Past, Present and Yet to Come in this comical, touching, and sometimes eerie movie.  From the press release:

From Walt Disney Pictures comes the magical retelling of Charles Dickens’ beloved tale – Disney’s A Christmas Carol, the high-flying, heartwarming adventure for the whole family. When three ghosts take penny-pinching Scrooge on an eye-opening journey, he discovers the true meaning of Christmas – but he must act on it before it’s too late. Complete with spirited bonus features, this exhilarating and touching Disney classic is destined to be part of a family holiday tradition, adding sparkle and heart to all Christmases yet to come.

GLEE: The Complete First Season DVD Giveaway

I have been dancing my entire life.  My parents recognized my love for dance and immersed me in lessons.  From rehearsals, to competitions, to choreography to eventual teaching, I loved it all (and still do).  With my dance and performance background, whenever I hear music, I have to dance.  I really think it’s an illness….anytime I hear a song, I start choreographing or start counting the beats for a tap routine.  With all this musicality, you would think I could sing.  Um….no.  Not even a little.

When GLEE first debuted in May of 2009, I was immediately drawn to it because of the catchy tunes and dancing.  After the first episode, I was hooked.  While I have never been in a Glee Club (I had the good sense not even to try out), I can live vicariously through the characters on the show.  A little about the show:

Through the course of its initial 13 episodes and another 9 that aired in the spring of 2010, Glee transfixed its audiences with its offbeat combination of humor and drama and its musical numbers, ranging from Broadway to classic rock to rap, or even merging them together in the show’s famous “mash-ups.” Michele and Morrison, both with Broadway résumés, get the biggest credits (check Michele’s roof-raising “Don’t Rain on My Parade” or her “Defying Gravity” duel with Coifer), but the whole cast sings and dances with skill and heart. It didn’t take long for entertainment powerhouses of all stripes to take an interest in Glee, either as contributors (such as Madonna, who lent her music to a full episode) or as guest stars. Broadway star Kristin Chenoweth makes numerous appearances as glee-club alumna April Rhodes (none better than her duet with Morrison of “One Less Bell to Answer” and “A House Is Not a Home”), and in the season’s best episode, “Dream” (directed by Joss Whedon), Neil Patrick Harris and Idina Menzel (Chenoweth’s Wicked costar) sing terrific duets with Morrison and Michele, respectively. Other guest stars, to often-humorous effect, include Josh Groban, Molly Shannon, Eve, and Olivia Newton-John. At the end of the season, well-deserved Emmy wins went to director-creator Ryan Murphy (Nip/Tuck), Lynch, and Harris, and Morrison, Michele, Colfer, and Chenoweth also earned nominations.”

Now you can relive the musical moments of the first season of Glee!  On September 14th, Fox Home Entertainment released the complete first season! The DVD can be purchased on Amazon for $39.99.

Two New Strawberry Shortcake Movies on DVD: Giveaway

When I was little, the first time I got to decorate my own room I chose Strawberry Shortcake and my Mom really did it up!  I had a Strawberry Shortcake comforter, curtains and pillows (not to mention shockingly pink walls!).  I loved my Strawberry Shortcakes dolls and played with them daily.  Now, my daughters have finally found the phenomenon and I love sharing my memories with them.

One thing we didn’t have when I was a kid was the opportunity to see Strawberry Shortcake come to life in a feature length movie!  But on August 31st, two new movies will debut on DVD bringing the Strawberry Shortcake storyline in to the homes of little ones everywhere!  From the press release:

Winter is coming and it’s time for Strawberry and her friend to celebrate! A full-length CGI feature film, Strawberry Shortcake: The Glimmerberry Ball Movie follows Strawberry and friends as they prepare to celebrate the coming of winter with a secret gift exchange and a festive winter ball. But, when someone destroys their decorations and the girls all carve the same design in the Glimmerberry Ball lantern event, they have some mysteries to solve in an endearing fun-filled adventure.”

My girls both loved this movie!  My oldest sat through the entire thing and chuckled as she watched the secret gift exchange unfold.  I was amazed at the animation and I even loved watching my childhood “friends” come to life!  In the second movie, Strawberry Shortcake: Berrywood Here We Come, Strawberry and friends head to Berrywood to visit Strawberry’s movie star friend, Limelight. When they arrive, they’re shocked to see not everything is glitz and glamour. They must come together to help Limelight realize that everyone can shine – because everyone is a star! In part two, Hooray for Berrywood! Strawberry and friends bring their Berrywood experience home and help re-open a local theater. By working all together as a team, they’re sure to make a berry-good movie!

I enjoyed watching the movies with my daughters and sharing a little bit of my childhood with them.  As a Mom, I liked that the movies were age appropriate, fun and also had a great message.  Both DVDs had special features including some coloring pages which were a hit in my home.  In my opinion, both of these movies would make excellent stocking stuffers for girls this holiday season!  Find them on Amazon for $12.99!

HawthoRNe 1st Season Series DVD: Giveaway

HawthorneBoxArt_200As many of you know, I am a Mom who also works full time outside the home.  My busy schedule requires a delicate juggling act of my priorities which can certainly be stressful.  But, to me, the rewards greatly outweigh the drawbacks.  For this reason, I can definitely relate to Christina Hawthorne (played by Jada Pinkett Smith) in the TNT series, HawthoRNe.  A little about the series:

Juggling both family and career, recently-widowed nursing director and mother of a teenage girl, Christina Hawthorne (Jada Pinkett Smith) struggles to hold the middle ground in a battle between bureaucratic administrators, heartless doctors, and apathetic colleagues who are caught up in a system that’s forgotten whom it’s there to serve.

Sesame Street turns 40!

I was born in July of 19 70-something.  Some of my earliest childhood memories are of watching Sesame Street (which was then in it’s earliest of Seasons) on our television with my younger brother.  My favorite character was Big Bird and my Mom even claims that I tried to talk to him through the speaker of the TV.  Sesame Street has certainly stood the test of time as it is celebrating it’s 40th anniversary!

Now, my children watch Sesame Street and I will admit that I love watching with them.  There is just something so familiar and comforting as I think back on my own childhood experiences and watch my daughters create their own fond memories of Big Bird and Elmo (Aubrie’s favorite).  While the premise is still the same, the skits and some cast members have changed through the years.  To celebrate the special anniversary, the gang at Sesame Street has compiled their favorites from the past 40 years of Sunny Days!  From the press release:

sesamestreet“For 40 years, sunny days have swept the clouds away and inspired preschoolers to learn, grow and achieve their highest potential.  Relive the best-of-the-best when SESAME STREET: 40 YEARS OF SUNNY DAYS debuts as a two-disc DVD set November 10 from Vivendi Entertainment and Sesame Workshop, the non-profit educational organization behind Sesame Street. Premiering on November 10, 1969, Sesame Street is the longest running children’s series and “…arguably, the most important children’s program in the history of television” (Newsweek.com). Featuring nearly six hours of everyone’s favorite Sesame Street stories, songs, Muppets™ and celebrity segments, the SESAME STREET: 40 YEARS OF SUNNY DAYS collectible set spans the renowned show’s four decades, includes never-before-seen archival footage and a limited-edition hard covered commemorative book.”

Do you miss your old favorites?  Remember singing along to Ernie’s “Rubber Ducky” or Bert’s “Doing the Pigeon?”  See them all again and share the classics with your kids!  The DVD is available on Amazon for less than $30!

Chop Socky Chooks DVD Review and Giveaway!

With the days getting colder I have found that the kids are inside more.  My son is working really hard in school and I find that letting him watch TV for a little bit is a great way for him to relax and unwind when he can’t be outside after homework is done.  I keep pretty close tabs on what shows they watch and am always on the lookout for stuff that he enjoys but is still within the parameters of what I think is appropriate.  Therefore, I was excited to review one of Twentieth Century Fox’s latest, Chop Socky Chooks!

chop socky
