Cool off your summer with Musselmans!

I have two children.  One, like me, needs to be awake for quite awhile before she can even think about breakfast.  My son, on the other hand, needs food the minute his feet hit the floor in the morning or else you have one grumpy child on your hands.  In the summertime, I try to do a little experimenting with breakfast to find things they will like during the school year that are both good for them and easy to fix.

If you have never purchased Musselman’s for your family before, they have an array of great tasting products that are good for them too.  From the website: “Musselman’s is all about great-tasting apple products made from fresh, seasonal apples. Such as, Healthy Picks apple sauce to complement fitness routines and for those watching their sugar intake, Totally Fruit flavored apple sauce for kids, even an organic apple sauce. Plus, apple juice, apple butter and a whole lot of other unique specialty fruit products.”

Patiently awaiting his smoothie to blend....and workin' the bed head hairdo.

This past week, I got a great basket full of goodies from Musselman’s! In my basket were some great recipes for Smoothies, which I decided to test out on my must-have-breakfast-NOW child.   My son was excited to taste something new, and I was thankful to not have to turn on my oven or stove in the summer heat to fix breakfast.  He loved his smoothie and this is definitely something I can continue to fix for the kids easily and quickly.  Musselman’s has some great recipes and ideas for you to try, including the idea of baking with applesauce to save you some calories.   My favorite tip?  Musselman’s recommends freezing the individual cups of applesauce for lunchboxes.  They will thaw out in time for lunch but at the same time, keep the contents of your child’s lunch cool.  Love this idea so much better than an ice pack!

Keep Musselman’s in mind the next time you need a great recipe, and don’t forget to friend them on Facebook too for all the latest news that’s good for you.  :)

Musselman’s Introduces NEW Flavors: Review and Giveaway

My oldest daughter has entered Kindergarten (and loves it!) and we are required to send a daily snack to school with her.  Of course, she requests cookies, chips and candy, but I am sure that would disqualify me from winning the Mother of the Year Award (not to mention create quite the belly ache).  So far this year, I have sent graham crackers, goldfish, raisins and the occasional fruit snack, but my daughter is getting bored with the variety already.

So, I was thrilled when Musselman’s asked me to try out the new flavors of their Totally Fruit and Healthy Picks applesauce.  Because the individual packs don’t need to be refrigerated, they make perfect school snacks!  We were sent the Mixed Berry Totally Fruit, which is a brand new flavor joining the already released Peach and Strawberry.  Lily loved it!  And as a Mom, I love that the applesauce is naturally sweetened with fruit juice and contains no artificial colors and flavors.

Musselman’s didn’t forget about the Moms!  The Healthy Picks line is geared towards keeping the parents healthy and is offered in the following varieties:  Granny Smith, Raspberry Acai, and Blueberry Pomegranate.  The Healthy Picks contains no added sugar and i s fortified with fiber, calcium and Vitamin C.  And because they are individually packaged, you can easily grab and go.  No more excuses not to choose a healthy snack!  While the Healthy Picks is geared for adults, my daughter loved it, too.

Musselman’s Welcomes Spring: Review and Giveaway

I have had the great pleasure of working with Musselman’s several times here at Experimental Mommy and they never seem to disappoint. So when they approached me about new and exciting activities to welcome Spring, I knew it would be something my readers would be interested in learning more about.

This Spring, Musselman’s has come up with a healthy (but fun!) side dish for your Holiday table which I decided to try with my girls this evening. It’s incredibly easy:

1/2 cup Musselman’s Applesauce
1/2 cup Yogurt (any flavor, but I used “Apple Pie”)
Raisins (or any garnish you like such as jellybeans, etc.)
bunny ear and bow tie cut-outs (available on the Musselman’s Facebook page)

Simply mis the applesauce and yogurt to create a thick consistency. Make a cute bunny face with the raisins. Tape the bunny ears and bow tie to a bowl to create an adorable presentation. Serve!

My girls loved coloring the bunny ears and bow ties and got a kick out of eating the dessert. They loved it and because I know the next few days will be filled with candy and chocolate, I was thrilled that this side dish was a healthy one. Want more Holiday crafts? I have been fortunate enough to work with Musselman’s this year on a yummy review and giveaway opportunity creating fabulous recipes with their products.  The applesauce muffins I created were a huge hit with my girls!  When I came home from work yesterday, I had a big surprise waiting for me on my front porch…..a delicious basket of Musselman’s products including the following (even some brand new items!):

Musselman’s Applesauce: Review and Giveaway

hypothesis Musselman’s Applesauce will be a wonderful healthy ingredient in a breakfast muffin recipe and will also be a fun way to spend some quality time with my daughter.

materials One bottle of Original Applesauce, one bottle of Cinnamon Applesauce, a recipe for muffins, and a 4 year old kitchen helper.  About Musselman’s Applesauce:

musselmanslogoAs a grower owned cooperative that’s been making apple sauce for more than 60 years, Musselman’s growers take special pride in providing only the highest quality apples for their products. We believe that making healthy, delicious apple sauce is more than just a job. It’s a way of life. That’s why the growers who have spent their entire lives nurturing and harvesting apples also own the company. And when you eat our apple sauce, you can feel good knowing that we only use 100% American-grown apples. Bottom line: You can trust us to provide only the best.”

results Musselman’s challenged me to use their applesauce to create a delicious and healthy side dish.  Upon searching allrecipes.com, I found a great recipe for Applesauce Muffin Mix!  It was easy to prepare and was ready in just 30 minutes.  Did you know applesauce has no fat or cholesterol and is low in sodium, too?  Applesauce makes a great substitute for oil in muffin mixes!

muffinLily and I had a great time baking the muffins and they were VERY yummy!  Warming them before serving makes them perfect for a cool Fall morning!  We used the Original Applesauce in the recipe, but both of my girls tasted the Cinnamon variety as well and LOVED it!
