Barbie A Perfect Christmas DVD {Review and Giveaway}

The weather here in New Orleans has finally gotten colder (we even had to wear a jacket today!), so it is getting easier to find my Christmas spirit!  Last weekend, we started shopping for gifts, putting up our holiday decorations, unpacking our winter clothes and breaking out the Christmas music and DVDs.

While our favorites are Rudolph and Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas (anybody remember that one?), we are excited to add “Barbie: A Perfect Christmas” DVD to our collection.  Because I have two daughters, we are no strangers to Barbie and all of her accessories, so my girls couldn’t wait to see her come to life in this Christmas movie.  About the DVD:

The all-new DVD, “Barbie: A Perfect Christmas” stars Barbie and her three sisters – Skipper, Stacy and Chelsea, whose holiday vacation turns into an unexpected adventure filled with new friends and magical experiences. In the end, the sisters learn a heartwarming lesson that the joy of being together is what really makes A Perfect Christmas! Released November 8th at all major retailers.”

We received the DVD today and my daughters could not wait one more second to watch the movie, so we decided to have a Wednesday night movie before bedtime.  The DVD has a runtime of 1 hour and 14 minutes, so I was a bit concerned that it wouldn’t hold the attention of my 3 year old.  I was wrong.  Very wrong. Both of my girls (ages 3 and 6) loved the storyline and the music.  Their favorite parts included the “raindogs” and the snowball fight between Barbie and her sisters!

As a Mom, I liked that the movie showed the importance of family at Christmas and downplayed the idea of receiving material items.  Barbie’s two youngest sisters remind me a LOT of my two daughters….they tease each other just like the movie.  I was glad to see scenes where the sisters learn to get along and love one another.

As a blogger, it was fun to watch because one of Barbie’s sisters, Skipper, is a blogger, too!  It was funny to see Barbie and Skipper talking about podcasts and websites.  That’s a far cry from the Barbie of my day!

Overall, both my daughters and I enjoyed the movie!  I would definitely recommend it as a gift or stocking stuffer this Christmas for girls who love Barbie and friends.  In fact, you can even purchase the Barbie and Sister dolls from the movie exclusively at Target ($49.99)!

  2. I remember always looking forward to playing Barbies at the house of the twins in my class. It was so much fun because they had two of everything, including the dream house!

  3. When I was little, my sisters and I would set up all our barbies (airplane, camper, kitchen, etc)…and play for hours. I think playing with Barbies was one of my favorite things to do as a kid.
    Thanks!

  7. My favorite Barbie moment when I was young was that I had saved up enough money to go buy the horse that had just came out that Barbie could ride. I enjoyed playing with them so much!

  8. I remember my 1st grade birthday party, I had a good friend named Pamela who was running late and I didnt think was coming. When she finally showed up, she had gotten me a Ballerina Barbie with a short purple dress. She quickly became my favorite of all of my Barbies. Now my girls have her along with all of my other Barbies and I told them that story when I handed her down. Its funny the things you remember!

  9. my cousin had a barbie and once made her a ponytail and draped the hair around the rubber band that it looked like she cut her hand. Her mom went nuts until she discovered there was no hair cut

  11. I loved playing with Barbie when I was younger especially the Rapunzel and the holiday collection. I still have the dolls in the boxes too!

  12. Loved barbies but we never got further than setting up the house than it would be time to clean up, which was fine because making the house was the funnest. Im not sure we would have known how to actually play with the barbies

  13. I remember playing Barbies with my cousin. We both had the Barbie mansions and storage cases full of clothing. It was awesome. I ended getting the Barbie Limo & Jeep one year for Christmas. The year after that my cousin died and I ended up throwing all my barbies out in a emotional breakdown. I ended up finding a box of clothes that my own kids now use on their Barbies.

  14. My favorite Barbie memory is the very first Barbie that I gave my oldest daughter. She was three and carried her everywhere to bed, bath , the store.

  15. my favorite was making “houses” for the barbies out of legos. Like the outlines of the rooms. My brother (with his GI joes) and i would do it for hours 🙂

  16. Has to be when my daughter fell out a short window into the mud and she still had her barbie in her hand through it all. Both the real doll and the barbie were fine except my daughter was solid mud.

  17. I remember one of my first Barbie’s. She had a black and white striped swimsuit and that was really bold for the 1950’s and 1960’s.
