Allergies Beware! We Conquered the Outdoors!

I wrote this post while participating in a blog tour conducted by Clever Girls Collective on behalf of Children’s Claritin®. I have been compensated for my time commitment to the program.

As a child, I was plagued with horrible allergies.  I vividly remember the not-so-fun skin scratch test that resulted in weekly allergy shots.  I was allergic to grass, cat hair, and dust….how do you avoid those things?  Fortunately, as time went on, my allergies got much better and allowed me to enjoy the outdoors.  After having kids, I prayed that they would not inherit my allergy issues.  But, my first daughter started with chronic ear infections shortly after she turned 6 months old which progressively got worse with sinus infections which were attributed to allergies.

Here in New Orleans, spring is synonymous with allergies.  With the heat and humidity already wreaking havoc on my daughter’s asthma, allergies are just one more factor which adds up to a miserable season (and to top it off my poor baby suffers from eczema as well).  So when we decided to take a trip to Callaway Gardens Summer Family Adventure, I knew we needed a game plan.  We were scheduled to participate in many activities such as hikes through gardens of wildflowers, bike riding, boating, golfing, swimming and even circus trick.  The majority of the vacation was scheduled to be outside and I didn’t want my daughter to be miserable!

Our game plan?  Children’s Claritin!  The chewable tablets make it easy for my 6 year old to take and she likes the flavor, too!  But above all, it works for her.  We were able to enjoy our entire outdoor vacation without one allergy attack.  Our trip was possibly one of the best vacations we have ever taken and allowed us to reconnect with each other and nature without any worries!
