Give Back and Become the 2011 Family of the Year!

In 2005, my family and I endured a life changing event…..Hurricane Katrina.  In the months that followed the Storm, we were recipients of many random acts of kindness and selflessness.  While I never expected to be on the receiving end of such generosity, we quickly learned humility and said a million “thank yous” to strangers, family and friends.

One thing we vowed to do was to make sure our children (our daughter was only 6 months old at the time) knew what had been done for us and the importance of paying it forward.  While my kids are still young, we do talk about what we can do to help others and how lucky we are to have gotten back on our feet.  We explain that many families are not as fortunate and may not even have the basic necessities of life such as a hot meal, a warm bed or a hug from a friend.  It is important to my husband and I that our kids are raised with a loving and generous heart.

How can your family give back?  Why not take the opportunity to brainstorm with your children and listen to their ideas on how they can make a difference in their community?  Has your family already participated in good deeds in your neighborhood, your school or your City?  Your actions could win your family the honor of being the 2011 Family of the Year sponsored by Got Milk?!

Nominate your family or one that has made a difference in your life or the lives of others and they could win a trip to NYC and a feature in Parent and Child Magazine! Need inspiration?  Read the incredible story of the 2010 winners, The Clifford Family! The contest closes on March 15th, so check out the details and requirements for participation.  Good Luck!

Growing Tree Toys: Review

With today being the start of Lent, it means I might be a little cranky for the next 40 days without chocolate, but it also means I have 40 days left to tuck things away for my kids’ Easter baskets!  As they have gotten older, we have tried to get away from too much candy and put some meaningful, imaginative toys in their baskets.  For great finds at great prices, Growing Tree Toys is just the place!

Never shopped with Growing Tree Toys before?  From the website: “GrowingTreeToys.com is more than just a toy website – it’s the perfect virtual representation of our store, (located in State College, PA) offering customers the amazing service, wonderful toys and robust features they deserve while shopping online. Featuring a carefully chosen, well-rounded toy selection, unique product details and descriptions, great information on play, helpful suggestions for gift givers, the best gift finder available, and so much more, GrowingTreeToys.com is truly a specialty toy website with the health and happiness of children at heart.”

Growing Tree Toys kindly sent me a Sticky Mosaics Jewels Art Kit and Emily was in Heaven!  At only $16.99, this is the PERFECT gift for any little girl who loves sparkly things and enjoys arts and crafts.  This kit was great for Em to spend a rainy Saturday doing, and she was so proud of her work!  Growing Tree Toys offers other Mosiac Kits as well for both girls and boys!  Growing Tree Toys also offers numerous Arts and Crafts Kits for children of every age.  I adore Melissa and Doug products and Growing Tree Toys is a great resource for them as well.

Thanks, Growing Tree Toys!

Growing Tree Toys offers you the chance to shop by age, department, or brand, and offers “Deals of the Day” for great prices on items that would make any child smile.  There are definitely a few things this Easter Bunny needs to get hopping on for my kids!

Wordless Wednesday: Happy Mardi Gras!

Ready to Roll on our Float!

My Baby is Three!

birthday floatIt seems like just yesterday when I rushed to the hospital with some major contractions. I thought for sure that I would meet my new baby in a matter of minutes, but she had other plans. After 18 hours of labor, yes EIGHTEEN, she finally decided it was time to enter the world.

Aubrie Kate was born at 8lbs. 4 oz, a BIG baby for my 5’3″ frame! She had a full head of dark brown hair and big blue eyes….not much has changed! It has been an incredible three years watching her develop a personality (she is so much like her Daddy) and become a little lady.

Having a birthday in the middle of Carnival season has it’s perks here in New Orleans. carousel rideThe morning of her birthday was the annual Mardi Gras parade at her daycare. We decorated her float with birthday accessories including an “It’s my 3rd Birthday!” sign. The trumpet player even played Happy Birthday as she began to roll. So sweet! After the parade, we shared King Cake with her classmates and then headed home for nap.

After naptime, we headed to the parade route for the Mardi Gras parade of the day, Krewe of Centurions. We brought her “It’s my 3rd Birthday” sign with us and it did indeed work some magic! Aubrie caught no less than 20 stuffed animals and two bags of beads as she was bombarded by float riders.

Deciding on a birthday party was easy. She LOVES carousel rides and there happens to be one in our area.  Although the weather turned out to be a bit chilly, we had a great time as Aubrie and her friends spun themselves silly on two hours of carousel rides! I think Aubrie only paused once in order to eat her cake and then it was back to her favorite horsey for another ride.

I think she had a great birthday and I am treasuring every one of them. Before my eyes, she is growing up and no matter how much I want to slow time, March 4th continues to be a part insists on being part of the yearly calendar! Happy 3rd birthday, my beautiful princess!  You will always be my baby.

Adorable Leggings from Paper Lili: Review

In my recent quest for the perfect birthday outfit for my three year old, I ran across the most adorable leggings for my six year old daughter.  As soon as I saw the personalized leggings, I knew that she had to have them!  She is always looking for ways to add sparkle to her wardrobe (who doesn’t love a little sparkle?) and Paper Lili definitely fits the bill.  About Paper Lili:

Ever since I was a kid, I have embellished, painted and altered anything and everything I can get my hand on.  Brights, pastels….anything goes.  They make me happy, and through paperlili, I hope they will have the same effect on you.  The name paperlili is a combo of my two princesses.  They are both my biggest fans and critics…if I make a blanket that they instantly want to hug, I know I am onto something.  If I make a skirt that is uncomfortable, they  tell me….immediately.  Because of this, everything is kid friendly and mom approved.

There are many fabulous items at Paper Lili, but the thing that caught my eye first was the personalized leggings.   What a cute way to make an everyday article of clothing unique!  I ordered a pair of black leggings with the name “Lily” on one leg.  They arrived quickly and totally lit up my daughter’s eyes when we opened the package.  “It says my name!!” she exclaimed as she began to put them on.  The fit true to size and were incredibly soft.  The stones are impeccably placed and were in beautiful colors.  You also have the option of specifying which color you want for each letter or letting the designer work her magic.

If you are expecting another baby, you totally have to check out the big sister/little sister shirts!  I know my daughter would have loved to wear one of these to the hospital!  And Moms need a little sparkle too, right?  I definitely want this shirt for our next trip to Disney!  Paper Lili doesn’t forget about the boys.  They have designed the most adorable, I mean manly, shirts for boys, too!

When I feel the need for some extra bling, I will definitely turn to Paper Lily again!  Don’t miss any specials or sales!  Make sure you follow Paper Lili on Twitter and Facebook!

Attending the BlogHer 2010 Conference in NYC last year was a wonderful experience for me.  Over 2000 Mom bloggers were in attendance, and I learned more than I ever expected.  Together with Cecelia, my business partner and Double Duty Diva co-owner, we connected with brands and forged blogger relationships. We would love to attend BlogHer 2011 in order to continue to grow our network and learn the necessary skills to propel our success.

Why should you sponsor us? Between Cecelia and I, we have over 5 years of blogging experience, a fast growing network and a sold-out blogging conference which proves that we are hard working, dedicated and determined women.  We have been to several blog conferences in the past including a speaking engagement at BlogWorld Expo last year so we know proper protocol and professionalism in these settings.  We are both outgoing and enjoy talking with attendees to share information about your company.  With our motto, “power in numbers” at the forefront of conversations, we love to talk with mom bloggers about how to harness their opinions and work together for the betterment of brands.

What can we do for you? During BlogHer 2011, we will network (including handing out business cards) during sessions, socials and private parties to help spread the word about your company.  To start, we will announce your sponsorship in a blog post on Experimental Mommy, Cool Baby Kid and Double Duty Divas including any SEO keywords you prefer.  We will gladly offer free advertising (125×125 button) on on all three sites for four months.  In addition, we will mention your company in tweets and Facebook posts throughout the conference using three Twitter handles (@BridgetteLA, @coolbabykid and @DoubleDutyDivas).   Between Twitter followers and Facebook Fans, we can reach nearly 14,000 people!  Finally, we will waive the Diva campaign coordination fee and get your product on five of our networked blogs.

What do we need? Cecelia and I have already bought our BlogHer 2011 tickets and are ready to roll!  Because we plan to room together, we are looking for a $1000 sponsorship in order to cover our hotel expenses and plane flights.  We plan to accept two $500 sponsorships in order to focus our time on your brand.  We feel this is a great deal for your company as you get TWO smart, outgoing, and savvy women spreading the word for you at BlogHer 2011.

By sponsoring our trip to BlogHer 2011, we are looking to develop a much deeper relationship with you than just selling passive advertising. This means we are genuinely passionate about your products, and we want to communicate that passion at various times to our readers and partners.

Bling it Up with Just Jen: Review and Giveaway

Even as the years pass and I grow older, I am still a girly girl at heart!  Who doesn’t love a little sparkle, right?  Whether you want to spice up your bridesmaid t-shirts or add bling to your bachelorette shirts, you have got to check out the selection at Just Jen!

Recently, I was given the opportunity to add some sparkle to my life by reviewing any premade or custom shirt by Just Jen.  As I looked around the website, I was overwhelmed with options!  After looking through the choices of fonts and the rainbow of Swarovski crystals, I knew I wanted to custom make my very own shirt.

As some of you know, I also run a network of mom blogs and consulting business, Double Duty Divas.  Because my business partner and I will be attending several blog events together in the coming year, I knew that a custom “Double Duty Divas” shirt would be the perfect way to promote our business.

Look at all the Options!

Customizing and designing my shirt was incredibly easy.  First, you select the item you would like to personalize including shirts, hats, aprons and even lingerie!  After selecting “shirts”, I was then given a ton of options including short sleeve, long sleeve, raglan, or maternity to name a few.  I chose to customize a fitted long sleeve tee in black.  The Double Duty Diva logo is mostly black, light pink and white, so I got busy choosing the font and crystal color that would best represent my business.  With thirteen different type styles, you are sure to find one that matches your taste!

By simply filling out the form at Just Jen with crystal color and text style, I easily created a shirt I hoped would be adorable.  My shirt arrived very quickly (most custom shirts ship in 1-3 business days) and came in a cute pink drawstring bag which would be perfect for gift giving.

I ordered an adult medium because the shirt is fitted and I wanted to make sure it wasn’t too tight. When it arrived, I was floored!  The design was so neat, professional and just plain cute!  The shirt was a good quality and the design is artfully and precisely placed on the shirt.  I absolutely love it!

Beat Lunchtime Boredom with Annie Chun’s Soups: Review

I have a love/hate relationship with sandwiches.  Love them because they are fast and easy, hate them because they can get redundant.  At school during the week, I try to find things that are different a few days a week so I don’t get burned out, but I also need the meal I have to be fuss-free and lightning fast to prepare.  When I was offered the chance to review Annie Chun’s soups, I was happy to check them out!

Never heard of Annie Chun’s before?  From the website: “Annie Chun’s mission is to take the mystery out of Asian cooking and allow you to easily re-create your favorite Asian dishes right at home. Delicious. Healthy. Convenient.” Annie Chun’s soups are all natural and available in a variety of  great flavors: Chinese Chicken Noodle, Hot and Sour, Kimchi, Miso, Thai Tom Yum, Vietnamese Pho, and Udon.  I decided to try out the Chicken Noodle first.  From start to finish it took me less than three minutes to prepare.  I loved the sturdy packaging that goes right from the microwave to the table so there is NO cleanup!  Even better!  I found the soup to be filling and it had a great blend of flavor and texture.  There were lots of veggies in with the noodles and it is definitely something I would buy again!

Chinese Chicken Noodle. YUM!

Over the course of the next few days I was able to sample some more of the soups and so far the Hot and Sour is my favorite.  Whenever we get Chinese, I order Hot and Sour and Annie Chun’s Hot and Sour is excellent for when you want make-it-yourself Chinese!  Annie Chun’s also offers meal starters for when you want Asian cuisine for your family’s dinner!  Need a recipe?  Check out the website’s recipes for more info.  Want to know how quickly you can find Annie Chun’s?  They have a store locator as well and you can sign up for coupons via their newsletter, too.  You can also check them out on Twitter and Facebook.  Don’t wait for a  fortune cookie to tell you, grab some Annie Chun’s next time you’re at the grocery store!
