Hefty Basics: Review and Giveaway

As a Mom of two daughters, a wife, a full time lab tech, dance teacher and owner of a product review blog, things can get a little hectic around here….ok, a lot hectic.  I try to make things as easy on myself as possible which includes cutting down on the housework.  On many occasions, we buy paper plates, paper cups and plastic cutlery at the grocery store to minimize the clean up after dinner so I have more time to spend with my kids.  However, I realize that buying paper products isn’t the most economical or eco-friendly solution.

I was thrilled to try the new Hefty Basics disposable tableware line when I learned that they are free of inks, dyes or coatings and are biodegradable through in-home composting.  But are they worth it?  We tried the Hefty Basic plates for a recent spaghetti supper and am pleased to report that the plates were very sturdy and durable.  I love that they are also microwaveable!

Need another reason to love Hefty?  They have recently partnered with the Arbor Day Foundation on a quest to plant 10,000 trees, one for every ten new “likes” on Facebook!  Let you friends know to like Hefty Basics and help plant a tree!

If you are an environmentally conscience consumer, check out the Hefty Basics line which is available in 45-count 8 5/8-inch lunch plate packages and 24-count 10 1/4-inch dinner plate packages.

  10. I’d like to try these because the cheapy plates I bought for lunches are not strong at all, so I can’t use them in the microwave (and I prefer not to microwave foods in plastic containers). Both problems solved here!

  11. I love strong paper plates that you can actually use for a meal when you can’t deal with real dishes. I keep them around for days when we have practices or games or meetings of some sort.

  12. We go through a lot of paper plates in the summer since we camp a lot. And since we use about $200 in fuel, and god knows how many emissions we throw out there, traveling for camping, the least I can do is be more ecofriendly with my paper plates!
