Nestle Family Virtual Halloween Party: Carving Out Time for Dinner

When I was little, when we got home from school on Halloween Day, only a few things were on my mind: costume, candy, makeup, candy, friends and well, CANDY. Fortunately, my Mom usually made us sit down before the craziness began in order to get some real food in our bellies before we were set loose on the treats.

Commanding my kids’ attention before trick or treating begins has proven to be quite the challenge. But, the importance of a healthy dinner before indulging in the sweets cannot be overlooked! This year, I plan on trying these “Mummy Dogs” in an effort to make dinner just as appealing as dessert (recipe from 365Halloween.com)!  All you need is a can of pre-made biscuits, turkey hot dogs or veggie dogs, and cheese sauce (a vegan cheese sauce recipe can be found here).  Simply roll out the biscuit dough, lay a hot dog on the dough, spread on some cheese sauce and wrap up your “mummy.”  Bake according to the package directions and don’t forget to leave room to decorate the face (yellow mustard works well!).  Looking for a more adult alternative?  Try this Pumkpin Chili Mexicana made with Libby’s Pumpkin!

  3. My fast and easy meal is spaghetti with meat sauce. If I am in a real hurry…it’s hot dogs and beans! Thanks!

  4. When I need something quick, I usually turn to gnocchi with crab in an oil and butter sauce, topped with parmesian cheese.

  5. Just about anything in the crock pot is a quick meal around here…. whole roasted chicken, bbq pulled pork and korean ribs are favorites.

  6. Spaghetti and meatballs. I stick pre-made meatballs and a jar of spaghetti sauce in the crockpot in the morning. It only takes minutes to cook the noodles when I get home and serve with a bagged lettuce salad.

  7. I can make a really quick stove-top macaroni and cheese just as good as the baked version. I just add in a little Velveeta into the milk and butter mixture before adding the cheddar cheese. The Velveeta keeps the cheddar cheese from separating.

  8. Our favorite fast and easy is chicken breasts and veggies – all can go in the microwave and it’s quick and healthy!

  9. I am terrible, because on nights when I need a fast dinner we have scrambled eggs and toast.

  10. I Love to put a porkroast in the crockpot with bbq sauce an leave it on low all day an its ready when we are!

  11. Pita pizzas, couldnt be any quicker slice a pita pocket in half (across to create two pizza pis shapes) top with your favorites and bake for about 10 minutes!

  12. Favorite quick dinner is boneless pork chops. Marinate them in the morning before leaving the house, doesn’t take long, and then they taste delicious at night! Takes about 10-15 minutes for them to cook in a pan, add some Betty Crocker garlic mashed potatoes and a can of corn and from start to finish it’s less than a half hour.

  13. My family’s favorite fast and easy meal is a rolled up flour taco shell filled with white chicken slices, shredded cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and Miracle Whip.

  14. I like to make a quick quiche with frozen pie crust, 4 eggs and a can of cream of chicken soup. It’s easy, yummy, and looks impressive. Simply serve with a bagged salad for those nights you are in a hurry…..

  15. Hamburger steaks and mashed potatoes with crescent rolls. It’s easy because you just put hamburger patties in a skillet with a jar of brown gravy, your choice of brand, and simmer for about 45 minutes. Heat a container of mashed potatoes, again, your brand choice, but I like Bob Evans best. Bake the crescent rolls. Done.

  16. I’d say my fav go to meal would have to be omelets.
I make them at least once a week and it helps me clean out the fridge.
The kids get a kick out of choosing their ingredients(leftovers) add some whole grain toast and fruit and dinners complete.

  17. I love to make breakfast at dinnertime. It’s inexpensive, easy, and doesn’t take a lot of time to prepare.

  18. Spaghetti and salad–I always have the ‘fixings’ in the pantry/refrigerator, and it takes virtually no time at all.

  19. Fave and easiest is Tuna noodle casserole-Just boil my noodles and mix the rest of the ingredients togegter and bake for 30 minutes!

  20. The easiest meal to make is tomato-alfredo linguine…all you do is boil the water, cook the 2lbs of pasta, and add a can of spaghetti sauce and alfredo sauce to it and tada!

  21. We love chicken tenders in the house. Hubby whips them up in about 12 minutes. They are awesome, better than any others I’ve ever tried.
