HABA’s Soft Doll Line: Lilli Review

hypothesis One of the soft dolls from HABA will create a great bedtime friend for my oldest daughter who loves playing “Mommy” to all of her dolls.

materialsOne HABA soft doll named, Lilli, and my precious oldest daughter named, Lily!  About the new HABA soft doll line:

lilliMeet Fay Finja, Souri, Lotta, Amelie and Paola – each 15” of sweet smiles and outstretched arms. HABA’s soft doll collection features a padded body, chenille hair, cotton/polyester and velour dresses. Each doll is dressed in happy colors of the rainbow and carries an accessory that makes them special from a flower basket to a headband. And just in case, each doll is hand washable (but keep them away from the dryer).”

results My oldest daughter who is five years old, has a growing love for her baby dolls.  It seems like each week, a new friend joins in her bedtime routine (there may not be room for my daughter in bed pretty soon!).  As she becomes more involved in pretend play, she also loves playing Mommy to her dolls and enjoys dressing and caring for them.  For these reasons, Lily loves dolls that have removable clothes and are easy to dress.  When I showed her the new soft doll line from HABA she immediately picked her namesake…Lilli!  Lilli is described as:

Dressed in pink from head to toe, this girly-girl has several layers to her pretty dress that she wears with contrasting socks.”

Photobucket

When the doll arrived, Lily could not wait to open the box.  The doll comes in a nice sturdy package which would be ideal from gift giving.  Once removed, the first thing Lily did was start braiding Lilli’s soft pink hair. Shortly after, she started exploring the removable clothes and shoes.  The Lilli doll must have passed the test, because she has already joined the others in Lily’s bed tonight!

hypothesis My daughter gave two thumbs up to her new Lilli HABA soft doll ($35).  With Christmas holidays fast approaching, I think some of the HABA accessories such as the Doll Carry Cot ($60) or Horse ($35) would make great gifts.

results My sister in law and brother are expecting their third baby in early September (or late August).  They already know it’s a girl! Photobucket

From trendy baby clothes to classic smocked clothing, there was an incredible amount to choose from!  I finally decided on an adorable outfit from EIEIO.  The outfit is described on the website as:

This precious little seersucker bubble dress is simply irresistible! With oversize plush cow applique, black and white polka dot bows at shoulder and hemline will have everyone talking! Add the ballet flats and she is sure to be the talk of the town!

When it arrived, I could not have been more pleased.  The outfit looks very classy and well made.  I just know my new niece will look adorable!

hypothesis To be honest, the hardest part of this review was choosing from the huge selection of precious items!  I mean, get a load of this newborn pettiskirt!  How can you resist?  And the best part of this boutique is that the products don’t come at a boutique price!  The outfit I ordered my niece sells for only $27!  If you need a baby gift for an upcoming shower, you should definitely check out My Baby Clothes Boutique!

Green Party Goods: Cupcake Stand Review and Giveaway

cadae8Between both children, I have thrown 13 birthday parties.  That’s a lot of birthday plates, napkins, and other paper products that went into the trash, and I must admit, I never really thought about it much after that.  However, we all need to be more aware that we can make subtle changes to help sustain the planet we live on.  That’s the focus of Green Party Goods! From the website:

“The earth is suffering as a result of the way we consume resources.  The most offending items in the tableware industry are plastic disposables. Plastics are petrochemical products, which end up in land fills where they do not degrade. (10% of the U.S. oil consumption is used to make plastics)”

The stand before you "jazz it up!"

WOW.  That’s a lot to think about.  Thankfully, Green Party Goods entrepreneur, Carole Soss launched her company in 2008 and is trying to change the way we throw a party.  Eco-friendly tableware, goody bags, and even decorations are available in nearly every color scheme and range from grown-up to child themed. I was recently able to review 2 of the Mini Cupcake Stands.

First, I noticed that they really hold a lot of cupcakes for being called “Mini.”  Secondly, they assembled in less than a minute and were definitely sturdy enough to hold 2 dozen cupcakes.  The kids loved stacking the cupcakes on the Polka Dot stand and it looks adorable all covered with the yummy cupcakes.  You could truly use this stand for other party foods besides cupcakes and it would work well.  Best of all, you can rest assured knowing that the stands are recyclable, and reusable too as they wipe clean easily!  If you are using the stand for cupcakes, check out the adorable Cupcake Edible Art! I have got to remember this the next time I need to send cupcakes to school for one of the kids because they are SO cute!

The next time you have a party to throw, consider checking out Green Party Goods first!  Each Mini Cupcake Stand can be purchased for $27.00.

Coffee for Less: BAM!

As most of you know, I am a native New Orleanian.  I love everything about this City…the food, the people, the festivals…what’s not to love, right?  My husband is a huge fan of coffee with chicory which provides a very bold cup of coffee.  While, he loves our Keurig machine, he has been unable to find a flavor that really says “N’Awlins” in a K-Cup.  So he was excited to try a blend from one of New Orleans’ own, Emeril Lagasse.  Emeril’s Big Easy Bold is described as:

Big Easy BoldEmeril’s Big Easy Bold K-Cups is a coffee with BAM! This is the coffee for coffee drinkers who like a lot of flavor in every single cup they brew. Try Emeril’s Big Easy Bold K-Cups if you are looking for a robust dark roast with full flavor. Timothy’s Coffee provides Emeril’s Big Easy Bold in convenient K-Cup refills for your single serve coffee machine, making it possible to have a bold cup of coffee on demand. Timothy’s Coffee and Emeril have teamed up to make this quality coffee available to you through your single serving hot beverage machine.

While the coffee does not have chicory, my husband very much enjoyed this flavor.  Of the ground coffee and K-Cups he has tried in the past, this one is tops!  He was almost tempted to scream, “BAM!”

Talk Back to the TV! Watch The View!

The girls at The View are off enjoying some R&R this week so we are living in re-run city, but I thought I would share today’s show details as it was a good one, and still fairly recent.

The women started out by discussing what lengths Moms should go to in order to protect their kids from the day-to-day stuff that might happen to hurt them…..everything from smashing their fingers in a non-baby-proofed cabinet to getting kicked by a playground bully.  This is a constant part of my life.  As an elementary school teacher (with children the same age) I constantly walk that fine line between intervening when things get out of hand as opposed to letting kids fight their own battles so they can learn to fend for themselves.  It’s a very, very, tough call sometimes.  Most of the time, whatever decision I make, I always re-think later and wonder if I should have done it differently.  What’s your solution?  Do y’all step in, or stay out of it?

karateKarate Kid stars Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan visited the show to talk about their hit movie.  This is a movie we haven’t made it to yet, but want to.  I didn’t realize the new Karate Kid dealt with the topic of bullying and I am glad to hear that.  I think more movies and TV shows that appeal to kids should address bullying as much as possible to continually get the message out to children about the way they should treat others.   Jackie and Jaden really seemed to have a great rapport on the set and it sounds like the new Karate Kid movie will become as well loved as the original with Ralph Macchio.  (What happened to him, by the way?)  Jaden Smith (son of superstars Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith) is one confident and funny kid for being so young.  I am sure his career will last a long time!

Kirsten Kemp Becker from TLC’s Property Ladder stopped by to talk about the ongoing property slump.  This is something that has hit my hometown pretty hard.  It’s a buyer’s market right now for sure with houses for sale everywhere!  The problem is, if you have to sell your house in order to buy another, you’re out of luck!  Very frustrating!  Kirsten showed houses in Tacoma, WA, Boulder, CO, and Pittsburg, PA, that provide a lot of bang for the buck.  Other areas where you can scoop up a lot of house for the money include several areas of Florida, Wilmington, NC, and Texas.  Also, if you have never seen Property Ladder, you need to check it out.  I love that show!alison

Style Expert Alison Deyette stopped by to talk about how to find designer labels for less by checking out your local T.J. Maxx and Marshall’s.  I will say I have found some ridiculously good buys at both places every time I go, I just have to psych myself up to go dig through it all!  All the outfits the models had one were cute!  In fact, I just went shopping yesterday and came home frustrated because I found nothing.  Might have to hit T.J. Maxx this weekend!  In the meantime, keep watching The View!

Disclosure: As a “View Ambassador,” I was given financial compensation by ABC Daytime to write my opinions of the recent View episodes.  However, all opinions remain 100% my own.

“Dig Around” at Your Garden Show!

One of my most favorite childhood memories is working in the garden with my Grandmother. My Grandparents grew a vegetable garden, rose garden and even raised chickens in their backyard. I remember picking tomatoes with my Granddad and trimming the rose bushes with my Grandma. Apparently, green thumbs are not an inherited trait and I have found myself to be very unskilled in the garden.  Unfortunately, I do not remember the skills I learned and have certainly not translated them into my own front yard. Now that my daughters are getting older, I would love to start a little kid-friendly garden in our front yard, but I really have no idea where to start.

YGS_180x150
I was recently introduced to a new website, Your Garden Show, which just may be my inspiration to begin “growing” my knowledge of gardening.  From the press release:

An interactive online experience where gardeners of all levels can share videos, photos, ideas and inspiration, YourGardenShow.com brings gardeners together in a rewarding, fun way. With individual and group pages, how-to videos, garden planners and a rapidly growing audience for new garden bloggers, here you can share the wisdom you have “grown.”

“YourGardenShow.com features an expansive 6,000 vegetable database developed by Cornell University (778 varieties of tomatoes!) and a 5,900 ornamental database powered by Missouri Botanical Garden, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the U.S.A. Uniting the 25,000 square miles of America’s gardens and beyond, YourGardenShow.com encourages passionate gardeners to “show and tell.”

irisI took the opportunity to begin my garden on Your Garden Show and see all they had to offer.  I quickly learned that this site is a great resource to the novice gardener!  One problem I have with starting my garden is that I have no idea what types of plants or flowers are appropriate for my space.  Fortunately, Your Garden Show has a searchable database where you answer questions on sun exposure, soil type, and moisture level and you are given some great options of plants that should thrive in your garden.  I found the gorgeous Iris “Beverly Sills” may be a good fit for my front yard! Isn’t it pretty?!?

I know that many of you have heard of a “vlog”, but did you know you could start a “glog” at Your Garden Show?  You can upload pictures and video to your “garden log” as well as enter the types of plants you are growing and keep detailed notes on garden observations.  I just had a great time looking through the numerous garden photos and found many that have inspired my future design! Go ahead and “dig around” at Your Garden Show and let me know what you find!

Don’t miss any of the action!  Follow Your Garden Show on Facebook and Twitter!

Great American Backyard Campout with Hershey’s: Giveaway

hypothesis Making Hershey’s S’mores with my family will be a great way to add fun and excitement to our backyard Fourth of July barbeque!

materials

One bar of Hershey’s Original Milk Chocolate, 4 Kraft Jet-Puffed Marshmallows, 4 Honey Maid Graham Crackers, our barbeque grill and four very eager family members waiting for dessert.  From the press release:

35898_C_visual_identityHershey®’s Milk Chocolate bars, coupled with crispy Honey Maid® Graham Crackers and toasted Kraft Jet-Puffed® Marshmallows are a centerpiece of summertime fun. S’mores have been helping families create memories since the delicious campfire recipe was first published in the Girl Scouts handbook in 1927. According to recent research, 79 percent of consumers polled believe S’mores are as much fun to make as they are to eat. This summer The Hershey Company and Kraft Foods have partnered to help families and friends take S’mores beyond the campfire as a special snack and activity – “snacktivity” – to create lasting memories all summer long.

results For us, the Fourth of July is generally low key.  We don’t do big parties or elaborate fireworks displays, but prefer spending time with our immediate family making lasting memories for our children.  This year, my youngest daughter was ill, so our usual swim activity just wouldn’t work out.  So, I was thrilled to get the opportunity to share with you some fun ideas from the Kraft More S’mores More S’miles website.  For example:

Grilling up Sweet Treats Sweeten your next backyard barbecue by adding S’mores to the menu. As an alternate to toasting a marshmallow on a skewer, simply preheat the grill to medium-hot. Build the S’more to your liking and wrap in aluminum foil. Place the wrapped S’mores on the grill and cook 1 to 2 minutes on each side or until marshmallow is gooey and the chocolate slightly melted between the graham crackers. Try Limited Edition Honey Maid® Squares, perfect for S’mores.

smores

After we ate the yummy barbeque hamburgers my hubby made for us, we decided to let the girls build their own S’mores.  This was a great activity that even my youngest daughter could participate in.  After only a few minutes on the grill, the S’mores were warm, gooey and ready to be eaten!  We each ate one before watching the fireworks in our neighborhood from our porch swing.

Even though it was low key, we had a wonderful time!

hypothesis From now through September 7th, make sure you visit Kraft Smores and Smiles website and enter to win one of 1,000 family fun prizes including fire pits, indoor S’mores kits, backyard game sets and much more.  you can also find some other awesome mouthwatering recipes, too!
