Borden Milk: Giveaway

While my daughters tend to be picky eaters, I am so glad that I have had no problem getting them to drink milk.  We serve milk at breakfast, lunch and dinner (with the occasional chocolate milk, of course) and the girls just love it.  Recently, there has been a push to remove chocolate and other flavored milks from school menus.  But, a study encompassing 700 days and 58 elementary and secondary schools showed that when low fat chocolate milk was not available, kids avoided milk altogether and reached for a substitute.  The dramatic reduction (35% on average) of milk consumption in turn reduced the number of nutrients consumed by the kids.

Did you know that chocolate milk contains the same 9 essential nutrients as white milk?  Since my kids love their chocolate milk, I am happy to hear this!  Check out Borden’s website for other great facts about milk and what it can do for your little one’s growing body.

Foldtuk Roaster: Review and Giveaway

hypothesis The FoldTuk Roaster will be a great way to cook, store and serve a fabulous turkey without taking up valuable kitchen space with a bulky roaster!

materials

One FoldTuk Collapsable Roaster in Red, a turkey breast, and a day in the kitchen with Dad.   About the FoldTuk Roaster:

foldtuklogo

The Roaster (18 lb fowl and 20 lb roast capacity) by FoldTuk Kitchenware is another Cook-Serve-Store innovation able to withstand conventional oven temperatures up to 500F (260C). The clever elliptic cover can completely surround meat products and provide a moist, crispy, evenly roasted meal. The Roaster utilizes FoldTuk’s renowned “fold and tuck” technology, which in function expands the pan and cover to a fully opened position of approximately 9 inches in height and provides convenient adjustable heights for refrigerators. Yet, amazingly, this enormous FoldTuk Roaster takes up very little kitchen storage space when the pan and cover are collapsed to a height of less than 3 inches.”

results

Several months ago, I had the pleasure of reviewing a piece in the FoldTuk Bakeware line.  I loved it then, and I can honestly say that I love it now.  So, when I was asked to try the FoldTuk Roaster, I was all ears!  Up until now, I have not owned a roaster.  Our kitchen is fairly small, so finding a place to store a bulky roaster has been a deterrent from making the purchase.  However, when the FoldTuk Roaster arrived, the collapsable technology makes it easy to store.

Photobucket

My husband and daughter cooked a turkey breast for dinner and it was absolutely amazing!  The roaster was very sturdy and easy to put in and take out of the oven.  After roasting, it can collapse to look like a platter!  Straight from roasting to serving and  leftovers can be stored in the same container!  After cooking, the roaster was easy to clean due to it’s naturally non-stick surface (plus it is dishwasher safe) and quickly collapsed for storage.  I couldn’t love it more!

summary

Overall, I enjoyed using my FoldTuk Roaster. It was easy to use, easy to clean and easy to store (and at only 4.5lbs, it was easy to handle).  I am amazed at how much the product can hold while collapsing down to a small size perfect for my small kitchen.  The turkey came out moist and the design was pretty enough to place on the table for serving.  The roaster can be purchased directly in red, blue or black for $80.00.

GIVEAWAY

With the upcoming holiday season, could you use a meat roaster?!?  FoldTuk has generously offered one reader a Roaster in the color of their choice!

Voskos Greek Yogurt: Review and Giveaway

Thankfully, my kids are not picky eaters.  One of the things they love to eat is yogurt.  I try to get them to eat it at least once a day as it is healthy for them, and not something that will spoil their appetite for dinner.  I have been curious to try Greek yogurt that I have seen on the grocery shelves lately, and was thrilled to get to try some out recently, courtesy of Voskos.

Why greek yogurt?  Besides helping to contribute to steady weight loss, Voskos yogurt is an excellent source of protein and calcium, and helps maintain and restore digestional health.  See more of the health benefits here. Voskos kindly sent me a huge sampling of their products, plenty enough to go around and something for everyone.  I tried some of the Honey Vanilla Bean and my son tried the blueberry.  We agreed the flavors of both were slightly more intense than regular yogurt and that takes some getting used to.  The consistency is definitely thicker and I like that.  After trying out more in the course of the next few days, we all agreed we liked the flavors overall better than the plain, and I am looking to use some of the plain variety in some of the recommended recipes so that we can still get the benefits!

GIVEAWAY

How would you like to try Voskos yogurt?  Voskos has generously offered FIVE Not So Blog readers the chance to try out two varieties of their yogurt for free!  Five lucky readers will receive two free product coupons each.

Plan a Family Game Night with Hasbro: Review and Giveaway

With the lighter schedule this summer thanks to no homework or sports practices, we have made it a point to try and work in some good quality time in the evenings after dinner.  Recently, we got the chance to check out three new card games fromHasbro. The kids were all fired up to try out Yahtzee Hands Down, 1000 Mile Bornes, and Sorry! Revenge.  We’ve had a lot of rain in the evenings lately so this week was perfect to shut off the TV and play.  The games were easy to set up, simple to learn, and fast enough paced to hold the kids’ interest, and ours too.  Both children agreed Sorry! was their favorite.  What I liked the most about having a family game night is that it got both kids talking to us, which is something that doesn’t happen when they are parked in front of the T.V.   I also like how playing games with your children helps facilitate taking turns, fair play, and good sportsmanship.  It’s always nice to see lessons you teach in practice!

Em contemplates her next move!

You can share your favorite Family Game Night moments on their Facebook Page and see what others have to say about these great games.  For only $6.99, you can stock up and have lots of options for your family to enjoy.  Since the card games are easy to tote, I plan on packing them for our next vacation.  You can also mark your calendars for Wednesday, September 29 to participate in National Family Game Night! On this date, Hasbro will be encouraging families nationwide to turn off the T.V. and have some family fun.   I am sure all of you have some games at home that haven’t had regular use…..it’s time to dig them out and remember how much fun Family Game night can be with Hasbro Games!

Step Stool Supply: Review and Giveaway

hypothesis The two step kids stool from Step Stool Supply will be a great way to help both of my daughters become more independent in the bathroom by allowing them to reach the sink alone.

materials One Two Step Kids Stool in white from Step Stool Supply and both of my daughters who could use a lift at the sink!  About the product from Step Stool Supply:

This handsome two-step stool will lift your child to sink height or give you the extra inches you need to reach the highest shelf. This step stool would look great with your child’s name decorated on it.

Multiple handholds make it easy to carry from room to room. Large steps give you or your child added security.

results My youngest is in the process of potty training.  Of course, part of potty training is teaching good bathroom hygiene including washing your hands thoroughly with soap and water.  After Katrina, we renovated our bathroom and for some reason thought that a taller vanity would be the way to go….of course, this is before we had potty trained kids.  So, neither of my girls can reach the sink unassisted.  So, the opportunity to review a kids stool from Step Stool Supply definitely appealed to me!

Photobucket

When the two step stool arrived, I was pleased to see that it was Guidecraft!  I own several pieces from this brand and know the quality is top notch.  The stool was very easy to assemble and fits great with the decor in my bathroom.  The best part about this stool (besides my kids being able to reach the sink) is that the top step includes storage!  Who doesn’t want (or need) more storage?!  We decided to place the girls hair products in the stool…brushes, pony tail holders, barrettes, etc.  Now, the girls can not only reach the sink unassisted, but can choose their hair accessories, too!  One less step for Mom in the morning is a good thing!

hypothesis We received the two step stool from Step Stool Supply for review.  We were very pleased with the quality of the stool and the promptness of shipping.  The stool can be purchased in either white or natural for $37.99.  In addition to step stools for kids, the company sells kitchen stools and medical step stools as well!

Wendy’s New Salads: Review

Because both my husband and I work full time, I find that we reach for fast food a few times a week for either lunch or dinner.  While it is certainly convenient, there isn’t much variety.  I often find myself tired of the traditional burger and longing for something different…..like a great salad.  However, ordering a salad at a fast food restaurant can be quite risky.  In my experience, these types of salads have included soggy lettuce with a presentation that looks like it’s been in the container for a week.

On my latest fast food crawl, I found myself at Wendy’s (it’s pretty close to my work).  On the window, I saw several new salads that peaked my curiosity.  Knowing that the actual product never looks like the picture, I was skeptical.  But, Wendy’s offered to have me come in and try one of the salads on them!  Nothing to lose, right?  On my next visit,  I chose the new Apple Pecan Chicken Salad which includes:

Lettuce (iceberg, romaine and spring mix), roasted pecans, Granny Smith and Red Apple slices, grilled chicken, sweet dried cranberries, crumbled blue cheese and an all-natural pomegranate vinaigrette dressing.

I will admit that I was pleasantly surprised when opening the salad….it looks delicious.  In a recent presentation done by Wendy’s, I learned that the lettuce is USA grown and goes from harvest to your store in 3-8 days.  To ensure your salad is never soggy, each store has it’s own salad spinner!  My lettuce was indeed crunchy and not soggy in the least.  My favorite part of the salad was the pecans!  Roasted with sea salt, cayenne pepper and sugar, they were divine!

Another reason I love Wendy’s new salad is that it allows for you to customize the ingredients to suit your dietary needs.  Watching your calories?  Don’t add the pecans (although that is a total waste of good pecans! LOL!) or use only one packet of dressing instead of two to remove some unwanted fat grams.

Next time you are in a hurry, but looking for something out of the ordinary, stop by Wendy’s for one of their new YUMMY salads!  Choose from Apple Pecan Chicken, Baja, Spicy Chicken Caesar, and BLT Cobb.  Don’t forget to follow Wendy’s on Twitter and Facebook to keep up with the latest news!

Renee, me and Cissy enjoying Bloggers on Bourbon!

Bloggers on Bourbon: Welcome to NOLA!

I have been fortunate enough to attend a few blogging conferences and meetups, but nothing EVER comes to my hometown, New Orleans….until NOW!  I was so excited that Bloggers on Bourbon chose to support my City and bring some tourism to the Gulf Coast.

On Friday, we began with dinner at Besh Steakhouse in Harrah’s Casino here in New Orleans.  Two words:  OH. MY.  The barbeque shrimp were to die for, the beef was incredibly tender and the cheesecake was divine!  Seriously one of the best meals I have ever eaten.  After dinner, we were given $10 of free play which I unfortunately did not turn into a million.  Following a short walk to Jackson Square, we began a Ghost Tour provided by LingerieDOTcom.  It is no secret that I am not a fan of the supernatural, but the tour was full of history and fun.  I guess if I live in one of the most haunted cities in the United States, I better learn to coexist, right? After the tour, we headed back to the suite for some cheesecake and laughs.

Saturday started with a little bus trip to the Houmas House, a sugar cane plantation located on the Mississippi River.  When we arrived, Shannon Lane, a travel blogger, greeted us with Mimosas.  The plantation was gorgeous and we had a great time learning the history of the home and it’s belongings (did you know that the furniture and decor is worth over $7 million alone?!?).  After lunch at the plantation, provided by Global Resort Homes, we had some free time to explore.  A few of us headed to the French Market for some shopping, but not before we got to check out a few street performers on Royal Street and a wedding at St. Louis Cathedral.

Dinner on Saturday was at Dickie Brennan’s Steakhouse, a five star restaurant.  This is one of my favorite places to eat in the City, so I couldn’t wait to see what everyone else thought of it.  We listened to presentations by Open Sky and Collective Bias (who both sponsored the fabulous dinner).  My steak was GINORMOUS (is that a word?) but was incredibly yummy.  My table companions were a freakin’ riot!  I don’t think I have laughed that hard in a long time (by the way, it’s pah-cawn…not pee-can)! The evening ended with a little rain (thanks to tropical depression Bonnie), but it did not dampen our spirits as we walked to Cat’s Meow in the French Quarter for some karaoke.

Thanks to MomDot and BookieBoo for putting on such a fun event!  I appreciate the hard work you put in and the great press it will bring to New Orleans!  I had a great time meeting up with old friends and making new ones!

SnuggStuff: Review and Giveaway

hypothesis The soft fabric and soothing ribbons on the SnuggRugg from SnuggStuff will make a great unique gift for my soon to be born niece.

materials One SnuggRugg in the adorable pink Monkey pattern from SnuggStuff and and a baby who should be born soon!  About SnuggStuff:

“We’re two Australian girls living in the same suburb of San Francisco that met through our husbands, and became fast friends.  The first day we caught up for a coffee we realized that we both carried around a recycled cardboard sleeve, the one you put on take away cups that everyone throws away after one use. We couldn’t bear the thought of so much waste! This  sparked the thought of creating an environmentally friendly alternative that also looked funky & stylish.

Being Australians, the first fabric that came to mind was sheepskin, but it had to be an animal friendly alternative. Once we found the perfect fabric, we bought our first sewing machine and the living room became a workshop. SNUGGMUGGs were born. From there, a whole range of SNUGG products naturally evolved, creating our SNUGGSTUFF company that you see today.”

results Everyone knows that when you bring a new baby home, you are faced with the challenge of finding something that comforts baby.  Many parents find that a lovey (or security blanket) is a great way to provide comfort to your child.  The soft fabric and smooth ribbons attract your little one and you will soon find them playing with the different textures.

While my kids have outgrown their loveys, a blanket like this would have been a great item in our arsenal of comfort items!  So, I am so happy to give a SnuggRugg to my sister-in-law who will have a new baby girl in a few short weeks (or days!).  The softness of the SnuggRugg is wonderful and it only gets softer with washing (not to mention that I think the monkey pattern is beyond adorable!).

hypothesis I was impressed with the quality of the SnuggRugg provided by SnuggStuff.  I think this item would make a really cute baby shower gift and can be purchased directly from SnuggStuff for only $20.  Not in the market for a lovey?  Check out the awesome reusable coffee sleeves (which can even be customized!).
