Gerber Graduates Preschooler Snacks: Review

hypothesis The Gerber Graduates Preschooler snack line will provide me with many healthy options for Aubrie’s never-ending appetite while ensuring she will like them, too!

materials

A sampling of many Gerber Graduates Preschooler snacks including the Fruit Twists, Cereal Twists, and Granola Bars plus one hungry toddler and mom looking for healthy alternatives.   About the Gerber Graduate Preschooler snacks we tried:

graduatesbig

  • Gerber Graduates for Preschoolers Fruit Twists:  ”Fruit Twists are real fruit snacks that  are perfect for on the go snacking – best of all they are made with 99% real concentrated fruit and juice and provide ½ of a  preschooler serving of fruit per twist as well as  25% of the daily preschooler amount of antioxidant vitamin C.  The great thing about these Fruit Twists, is that your child can pull them apart and eat one flavor at a time, or eat them both at once, combining the two flavors.  Either way, your child can choose what they like best!”
  • Gerber Graduates for Preschoolers Cereal Twists:  ”Cereal Twists are made with whole grains and two flavored yogurt fillings. Each cereal bar is individually wrapped for convenient on-the-go snacking and comes in three delicious flavors: Strawberry Blueberry, Banana Peach and Raspberry Vanilla.
  • Gerber Graduates for Preschoolers Chewy Granola Bars:  ”Chewy Granola bars are made with whole grain rolled oats and wheat flakes for a unique soft texture that preschoolers love – they’re naturally flavored and provide 10% daily value for 4 vitamins and minerals. They have 6g of whole grains per bar and have no preservatives or artificial flavors.

results With two growing girls in my home who both LOVE to snack, I struggle to find something they think is tasty and something I think is appropriate for their age.  They both are fans of individually wrapped fruit snacks, granola bars and roll-up snacks.  But, the portions are generally too big for their appetite and I am not thrilled with the nutritional value.  So I was more than happy to see their reactions to the Gerber snacks!

Their favorite by far was the Cereal Twists.  It’s soft texture made it easy for them to eat and they loved the flavors of yogurt mixed in.  I like the fact that they are easy to pack in my bag for snacking on the go.  The granola bars and fruit twists were both perfect portion sizes for my little ones and they both requested them as snacks frequently.

hypothesis

My girls both loved the Gerber Graduates Preschool snacks with the cereal twists becoming a fast favorite.  I love that the snacks are nutritionally balanced and I can rest easy knowing that the girls are getting what they need to grow big and strong.  Not sure if your child is meeting dietary requirements?  Check out the sample menus are Gerber’s Start Healthy, Stay Healthy Menu Planner!  Develop age appropriate menus, share and print!

Cottonelle: Over or Under?

For years, when I would replace the toilet paper in the bathroom, I would place it on the holder with the paper coming OVER (roll over).  No real reason other than he fact that I thought it looked better and was easier to grab.  In 2002, we got a Beagle named Callie.  As she grew, she was able to reach the toilet paper and began spinning the roll of paper with her paws until the entire roll was on the floor!  I have since switched to a roll under girl because Callie can spin the paper forever and none will unroll to a pile on the floor if it is placed in this orientation.  Problem solved!

Cottonelle did a recent poll asking consumers if their household was a “Roll Over” or “Roll Under” family.  An overwhelming 70% of families claim to prefer “Roll Over.”  Obviously, they don’t have Beagles!

Cottonelle_TP2

Cottonelle quickly went to work to design a new softer, stronger toilet paper that would “roll” with everyone’s preferences.  I had the opportunity to try out the newly redesigned paper from Cottonelle and it served it’s purpose well.  I do think it is thicker than our current brand and I liked the texture and quality of the paper.

Check out the Roll Poll, see how your State voted in the Great Debate, and learn about the new Roll Over design at Cottonelle!

I wrote  this review while participating in a blog campaign by Mom Central on behalf of  Cottonelle and received a sample to facilitate my candid review. Mom Central sent me a gift card to thank me for taking the  time to participate.”

Boudreaux’s Butt Paste: Review

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Boudreaux’s Butt Paste. All opinions are 100% mine.

When Lily was about 10 months old, she had a horrible ear infection.  The doctor put her on several different antibiotics to try and ease her pain.  Needless to say, she got one horrible case of diaper rash.  Believe it or not, up until this point, she really never developed a diaper rash so I was clueless of it’s treatment.  The pharmacist recommended that we try Boudreaux’s Butt Paste which is readily available here in the South.

butt2

I had heard of this diaper cream, but had not tried it before.  Squeezing it out of the tube was sort of difficult because it is so thick.   This texture was just what Lily needed.  She was much easier to diaper after applying the cream and her rash healed in no time!  From that point on, I am a loyal customer and wouldn’t dream of trying another brand.  When my second daughter was born, I made sure we were stocked with plenty Boudreaux’s!  The butt paste, made of 16% Zinc oxide and Peruvian Balsam, is available in many different sizes for your convenience:  1oz, 2oz, 3oz and 4oz tubes, 16oz jar and single foil packs for on-the-go ease.

Secrets of the Mountain: Review and Giveaway

Each weekend, we settle down with the kids for a special night of either family games or movie night.  While I love movie night, I find it quite challenging to find age appropriate programming for my children that my husband and I can tolerate as well.  So I am always excited to learn about our family-friendly entertainment options.

secrets

I was so sad to miss a special screening in New York City of  the new TV movie, “Secrets of the Mountain” but was fortunate enough to be able to get a sneak peak in my own home.  This movie, which premieres on NBC this Friday, April 16th, combines adventure and mystery with family values and togetherness.  I know I can certainly relate to the hectic, fast pace of a working Mom!  A little detail about the movie:

Somewhere between the demands of her career, her ex’s wedding and her kids’ busy schedules, Dana James is noticing her tight-knit family starting to unravel.  An unexpected offer to purchase her family’s mountainproperty sets up a weekend road trip, which she hopes will bring her family back together.  But when they arrive, they quickly learn that the mountain is much more than it seems.  An ancient secret and a treacherous quest will test the family like never before.  It’s an edge-of the-seat thriller that reminds us that when times are tough, families don’t run away from problems – they run back to each other.

Check out the trailer for yourself!

Trailer peak your interest? Can’t wait to see the whole movie? I have good news! The “Secrets of the Mountain” DVD and Soundtrack (produced by Randy Jackson) will be available at Walmart on April 17th, but you can win them both right here on Experimental Mommy!

Bertolli’s “Into the Heart of Italy” Episode 2: Review and Giveaway

Is date night a thing of the past in your home?  Sometimes I feel like my husband and I are two ships passing in the night.  Between our jobs, kids, and extra curricular activities, I am lucky if I get to talk to him for 5 minutes a day!  We try very hard to get a sitter once a month and go on a date just so we can hold a conversation without having to retrieve colors from the floor or cut someone’s meat!  But, in all honesty, we have found it hard the last few months to live up to our pledge.

Last month, I had the privilege of participating in a Twitter party for Bertolli Frozen Meals.  I got my very first taste of the Oven Bake Meals and they were wonderful!  So, I was thrilled when Bertolli presented the opportunity to work together again and even better…..have a date night with my hubby!  Bertolli asked me to prepare a little bit of Italy in my own home and try another frozen meal.  Armed with two pasta bowls, two wine glasses, a serving dish, linen napkins with silver rings, candle and Andrea Bocelli CD, I was ready to sit down with my hubby and enjoy the Chicken Parmigiana and Penne Oven Bake Meals from Bertolli.

IMG_0952

Yes, I have iced tea in my wine glass. LOL!

The meal was incredibly easy to make.  Simply place frozen meal (which serves two) in a casserole dish and bake for 45 minutes!  It was delicious!  I am generally not a big fan of frozen red sauces, but this one was perfect.  My husband loved it as well, but found the portion to be a bit small.

Want to experience a little more of Italy? Bertolli has put together a series of mini-episodes entitled “Into the Heart of Italy” starring Marisa Tomei, Rocco DiSpirito and Dan Cortese.  The humorous episodes are quite a bit like “The Amazing Race” set in Italy.  You will learn some great information about the region and the ingredients used in Bertolli meals.  Check out Episode Two:

Fresh Express Salad Story: Contest and Giveaway!

As you get older and let more people into your “inner circle”, you realize that everyone you meet has their own story….their own experiences that mold them into who they are today.  But have you ever stopped to think that the food you buy at the grocery has a story, too?  I know it sounds odd, but somebody has to produce to food you eat, right?  Who does it?  How do they do it?  Where does it all take place?

The Food Channel has claimed that Food Sourcing/Vetting will be a top trend for 2010.  Consumers want to know more about what’s inside the package before feeding their families.  Fresh Express, a source of pre-washed, pre-cut salads has listened to the trend and cannot wait to tell you about your Salad Story!  From the press release:

freshexpresssmallFresh Express® wants to give you the “inside story” on what’s inside their bagged salads. Their new online Leaf Locator™ tool, introduced today, tells you where the leafy greens in your particular bag of salad were grown. The Leaf Locator tool lives on a new micro-site created by Fresh Express called “Your Salad Story™” which shows how their salads are cared for from field to store.

This information is revealed by entering ID codes found on Fresh Express bagged salads into the Leaf Locator tool at  (cole slaw and organic salads excluded). Foodies to picky eaters alike are invited to choose from 20 varieties of Fresh Express salads that are tracked by the Leaf Locator, totaling nearly 50 million bags each month.”

I took the opportunity to pick up a bag of Fresh Express Romaine Lettuce and use the Leaf Locator tool.  It was very easy to use (only two codes to enter) and within seconds, I learned that my bag of salad had been made in Arizona and Florida!  Pretty cool!  Browsing around the site, I also found some great recipes that I can wait to try out!

Pledge for Better Health and win a Whole Foods Gift Card!

As a working Mom, sometimes it is hard to always serve healthy meals when life gets busy.  The key to staying healthy in my home is planning, planning and more planning!  My husband and I try to sit down each Saturday night and plan what we will eat for dinner the entire week and make a grocery list.  Sunday, I organize our coupons, make a shopping list and buy groceries for the week.  I admit, sometimes this doesn’t always happen, but I am making a conscious effort to take a more active role in my health and in the health of my family.

Children’s Book Review and Giveaway- stories with a lesson!

My husband and I have made it a point to read to our kids from the minute they came home from the hospital.  Thankfully, both enjoy reading a lot and will ask to be read to often.  I am always glad to find children’s books that help reinforce or teach something I want the kids to know.  Recently, I received a few titles from the publishers at Phenix and Phenix. My kids were excited to read I’m Up in a Tree, Feeding Penny Pig, and How Lil’ Eddie Learns to Read.

books

All three books have great lessons as part of the storyline.  In Feeding Penny Pig, author  and certified financial planner Jeannine Fox tells the story of Laney, who recieves a special piggy bank from her grandmother Mimi.  Laney does chores to help feed hungry Penny the piggybank and keep her happy.  This book was excellent to read to my children as we recently incorporated simple chores tied to a small allowance for each of them.  We are trying to encourage them to save part each week towards something “big.”  This book really helped make that idea seem more appealing to them, rather than just doing it because we are trying to make them!

In I’m Up in a Tree, author Mark Alden Johnson opens the door for some great conversation with your child about making the right choices.   The story follows a little boy who climbs a tree but then realizes he is up so high he is scared to come down.  All sorts of creatures stop by and give suggestions to the little boy about how he can come down, but his “gut” keeps telling him he needs to be safe and stay put while he waits for his dad to rescue him.  The story ends happily and my children loved the bright illustrations and rhyming text.  I loved how the simple story could be used as a “jumping off” place for more complex conversations about making the right choices when it’s really important, like saying “No” when asked to try drugs or alcohol, for instance.

Last but not least, How Lil Eddie Learns to Read is a treat for both children and adults.  Author Rima Corral tells the story of Eddie who receives a book for his birthday.  Motivated to read, his family helps Eddie on his journey to be a good reader.  The best part about this book are the the helpful tips for parents scattered throughout the text.  Many parents are clueless about many simple things they can do that will help facilitate good reading habits with their children.

It’s never too late to start reading  to your children!  It just takes a few minutes a day to plant the seed for the love of books.  These three titles from Phenix and Phenix are a great place to start!
