Fill your basket with Hershey’s!

Hippity Hoppity, Easter’s on it’s way!  As my daughters would say, only 5 more “sleeps” under the Easter Bunny hops into our home and fills the empty baskets with yummy treats!  Is your Easter Bunny still shopping for basket ideas?  Tell him to hop on over to Keep Easter Easy!  Hershey’s has come up with this great website that includes themed baskets, product information, craft ideas and Easter recipes.  Check out the awesome Princess Basket!  I know Lily would love it!

hersheys Both of my daughters’ teachers requested that we send in one dozen plastic eggs, filled with candy of course, for their annual egg hunt this week.  Fortunately, Hershey’s has come up with the perfect egg-stuffers as well as the very easy pre-filled eggs! From the press release:

Hershey’s Kisses Chocolates are the most sought after Hershey treat in Easter egg hunts, followed by Reese’s® Miniatures,Cadbury Mini Eggs Candy, Whoppers Robin Eggs Malted Milk Eggs and Jolly Rancher® Jelly Beans*. Hershey makes the hunt for plastic eggs easier than ever by offering pre-filled eggs complete with an extra special selection of everyone’s favorite Hershey Easter treats. Assortments include:

  • NEW – Egg Hunt Favorites Non-Chocolate Filled Egg Assortment with Jolly Rancher® Hard Candy, Twizzlers® Pull ‘N PeelTM Candy, Jolly Rancher Jelly Beans and Jolly Rancher® Fruit Chews
  • Easter Favorites Chocolate Filled Egg Assortment with Reese’s Miniatures,Hershey’s Kisses Milk Chocolates, Cadbury Mini Eggs Candy and Whoppers Mini Robin Eggs Malted Milk Eggs”

reeseterbunny Hershey’s also sent me a few of their old favorites as well as some new products for my review (who can turn down a chocolate review??).  When I opened the box, my hubby spotted the Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs, one of his absolute favorites, and they disappeared almost instantly (and have you seen the Reester Buuny Peanut Butter Bunny?  Oh my!).  With him out of the way, I was able to sort through the new items including individual packs of Hershey’s Kisses which are PERFECT for my daughter’s classmates and Cookies ‘n Creme Eggs which were delicious. But my favorite new product was the divine Hershey’s Bliss Bunnies with Meltaway Centers.  This box of three would make a great teacher gift!

Verizon Palm Pre Plus: Wrapping it Up!

For the past 4 weeks, I have had the opportunity to thoroughly test the new Verizon Palm Pre Plus smartphone.  I have shared with you the results of my little “experiments” and thought it would be beneficial to sum it all up in one place.  Check out the posts below to see my “lab reports” on my experiences:

There were several things I loved about the Palm Pre Plus including the touch screen and it’s internet surfing capabilities. However, I was less than thrilled with it’s battery life and texting accuracy.  I feel that this phone would be great for someone who is Internet heavy (needs to surf the Net, use Twitter or other social media devices, but not as great for someone who is email intensive.  I found it more difficult to quickly reply to email and often mistyped with this keyboard.  My overall grade for the Verizon Palm Pre for my specific needs:  B-

Pillow Pets Spring Line: Giveaway!

In December, I was fortunate enough to do a product review and giveaway of the very popular Holiday gift, Pillow Pets!  The adorable plush pets were so popular that they were sold out for a period of time, and after reviewing the product, I could totally understand why!  Only a few short months later and Pillow Pets is back with a brand new Spring Line including a bunny, a duck and a lamb!   About Pillow Pets:

puffyduck Pillow Pets are a pillow and a stuffed animal, snapped up into one. Made of ultra-soft, machine washable chenille, PillowPets transform from a standard size pillow into a friendly, warm and snuggly pet with one strap. Pillow Pets are available in 20 adorable animal varieties that live in the jungle, on the farm and in the sea. They make ideal naptime buddies, travel pals and all-around fun, furry friends.  Winner of a 2009 iParenting Media Excellent Product Award and the 2009 Dr. Toy Best Vacation Product Award, Pillow Pets are much more than a stuffed animal!”

Aubrie still loves her Pillow Pet Puppy she received in December and uses it to lay on while watching movies with her big sister.  So when the pink bunnies arrived, I knew they would be an instant hit with them both.  The first thing I noticed is that they are just as soft as the puppy.  It’s so soft, I am honestly a little jealous that I don’t have one!  Just like the puppy, the bunny transforms from a stuffed animal to an 18″ pillow with one swift tug on the Velcro attachment.  And to maximize the cuteness, the bunnies ears are lined with a polka dotted fabric!

Your child not into bunnies?  Check out the equally cute lamb, tiger or penguin!  Because the pets are super affordable, they would make great Easter or birthday gifts.  The first pet is only $19.95 with each additional pet sold for only $15.95 (shipping and handling fees will apply).

I love our Pillow Pets so much, I am excited to tell you that I have one pet of your choice to give away!!

Healthy Balance Juice Review!

Living in the South where it gets unbelieveably hot, I am constantly reminding my kids to drink, drink, drink to stay hydrated.  They often get tired of the same old milk or water, and I don’t want them filling themselves up with empty calorie drinks that are full of unwanted sugar.  Recently, I was excited to learn about Old Orchard Healthy Balance Juice!

juice_lc_cranberry-raspberry

Exactly what is Healthy Balance?   From the website:  “Healthy Balance is Old Orchard’s line of low-sugar, low-calorie juice drinks. With 75% less sugar, carbs, and calories than traditional juice cocktails, Healthy Balance is fit for your lifestyle.” Healthy Balance offers a wide range of tempting blends from traditional Apple to something as refreshingly different as Pomegranate Blueberry Acai.  There are many more delicious flavors to satisfy anyone’s taste buds.  My family got to try the Pomegranate Blueberry Acai.   I must admit I was a little skeptical with it being a flavor that was a little off the beaten path but after the juice was chilled it didn’t take long to change my mind.  My 5 year old daughter is usually the pickiest in the house, and she drank her cup full in nothing flat and quickly begged for more.  Both kids agreed the juice was “awesome” and I thought it was pretty awesome that they were getting no added preservatives, artificial colors, or artificial flavors.

One more thing about Healthy Balance that’s pretty awesome is that it was created to give a better option to those who are watching calorie or carb intake. Healthy Balance is one of the only juice brands low enough in carbohydrates to be consumed as part of a sugar-restricted diet.  Healthy Balance is also the cornerstone  for a 4-year partnership between Old Orchard and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Your purchase of Healthy Balance helps to ensure a minimum donation of $650,000 towards finding a cure for type-1 diabetes.   This is great news for both Bridgette and myself as we both have beloved family members who suffer from diabetes.  I am sure they will consider making Healthy Balance a part of their diets very soon!

The 39 Clues: Giveaway

Lily is just about finished Pre-K and will be gearing up to enter Kindergarden in the Fall.  She has mastered letter sounds and is well on her way to reading and I could not be more excited for her.  As a child, I loved to read and I hope I can foster that same love of reading in Lily.  I still remember getting the Scholastic Book catalogs in Elementary School and going crazy circling the books I wanted to read.  Fortunately, my Mom knew the value to reading and agreed to buy just about any book we wanted.

Scholastic has put together a new series of adventure books, “The 39 Clues” and will be releasing Book 8 on April 6th!  What really makes this ten book series unique is that the books are supported with multi-media experiences including a website where readers can compete to win prizes.  From the press release:

the39clues The 39 Clues series centers around the Cahills—the most powerful family the world has ever known. But the source of the family’s power has been lost. Grace Cahill, the last matriarch of the Cahills, changed her will minutes before she died, leaving her descendants an impossible decision: receive a million dollars or a clue. The first Cahill to assemble all 39 clues hidden around the world will discover what makes the family so powerful—a reward beyond measure. It’s Cahill versus Cahill in a race to the finish, with readers hot on the heels of the main characters, fourteen-year-old Amy Cahill and her eleven-year-old brother, Dan. The series highlights famous historical figures kicking off with Benjamin Franklin in The Maze of Bones, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in One False Note, Toyotomi Hideyoshi in The Sword Thief, Howard Carter in Beyond the Grave, Anastasia Romanov in The Black Circle, and Amelia Earhart in In Too Deep.

In Book 8, “A video has just surfaced that shows reporter William Michaels in an exclusive interview with Gordon Korman, author of Book 8: The Emperor’s Code. Gordon reveals extraordinary information: There are vital hints concealed in the artwork on the cover of Book 8 that could expose the location of the next Clue! Examine the artwork carefully, and your family could find out where the Book 8 Clue is hidden!”

The 39 Clues sounds like a fun reading adventure for any 8-12 year old! Does your child love this series? The Not-So-Blog is giving away a great prize pack including:

2 autographed book sets which includes [Book #1 The Maze of Bones & Book #2 One False Note]

Verizon Palm Pre: Afterall, it IS a phone!

I hope you have been enjoying my recent posts describing my experiments with the new Verizon Palm Pre Plus!  I have really discovered some great features that have made life as a busy Mom a little more organized and a little less stressful.  But let’s face it, you need a phone.  Sure, the gadgets are nice, but what about when you need to make an emergency call or just chat with an old friend?

The Palm Pre Plus is actually quite user friendly when it comes to making a phone call.  Simply click on the green phone icon and the numbers appear on your screen ready for you to dial.  Your addresses can also be accessed with one simple touch and using your touchscreen gestures, it’s easy to navigate to find the number you need.  And for your convenience (and because my memory is not what it used to be), it is possible to make a call directly from the address book.

There has been lots of controversy about talking on a cell phone while driving.  In fact, many states now prohibit it and require a hands-free device to be worn while operating your vehicle.  You will be happy to know that the Palm Pre is Bluetooth ready and very easy to setup.  I also love the speakerphone option which makes phone calls between my kids and their relatives lots of fun.

touchstone Verizon’s website claims that the phone will get 330 minutes of talk time, but I think this must mean if you don’t use any other features.  I found that my battery ran down quickly and required a middle of the day charge session which wasn’t always convenient.  That being said, the Palm Pre does have a really neat Touchstone Standalone Charger available for purchase as an accessory ($50, but also requires a $20 phone cover).   To charge your phone, all you have to do it place your Palm Pre on the touchstone and it charges wirelessly!  So charge it up and feel free to gab away!

With this review series winding down, my last post will be a summary of my thoughts and links to more Mommy reviews!  Don’t miss it!

This product review is the opinion of the Experimental Mommy. Others may have a different experience. Verizon Wireless supplied me with the Palm Pre Plus and one month of service for review, but all opinions are 100% mine.

Free Willy: Escape from Pirate’s Cove Giveaway

As a parent, I strive to find quality programming for my girls that’s not only entertaining but educational. One television show that my oldest daughter loves is Bindi: The Jungle Girl on Discovery Kids!  She loves learning with Bindi on the countless animal adventures they present to the viewers.  Lily really looks up to Bindi!  So, I was thrilled when I heard that Bindi would be taking to the big screen in Free Willy: Escape from Pirate’s Cove!

0600009483P04r0_2D This DVD/Blu-ray combo pack, which was released on March 23rd, is described by Amazon.com as a,  “family film about a baby orca who needs a friend and a girl who finds the courage to help him. After young Kirra (Bindi Irwin) leaves her Australian home to summer with her grandfather (Beau Bridges) in South Africa, she soon discovers a baby orca stranded in the lagoon near her grandfather’s rundown seaside amusement park. She names the lonely whale Willy–and embarks on a great quest to lead the little guy back to his anxious pod before her grandfather’s greedy rival turns Willy into a captive, moneymaking attraction at his slick theme park. A little girl, a little orca and big, big fun and adventure!

Did the summary peak your interest?  For more Free Willy fun, check out the trailer and the online kid’s activity pack which includes fun facts about orcas and lots of games for the little ones (and even mentions New Orleans’ own Audubon Zoo!).  Want more?  You’re in luck!  I have one Free Will:  Escape from Pirates Cove prize pack to give away!  The prize includes:
