Pipperoos: Review and Giveaway

hypothesis Pipperoos will be a great way to encourage pretend and creative play in both my daughters while teaching reading comprehension and listening skills.

materials

One Julie the Jelly costume, Sea Play illustrated storybook, and a very excited 4 year old “drama queen!”  About Pipperoos:

pipperooslogoPipperoos’ creative drama kits include dress-up materials, illustrated storybook, and access to online content in one package. Each kit focuses on one theme, and includes either a single or an ensemble set of characters. Pipperoos will soon offer complementary products, such as backdrops, floor mats, and a variety of props, to enhance the creative experience in the home or classroom. Our introductory product line is intended for children ages three to eight.

Bold or shy, restless or focused, quiet or outspoken, all children can enjoy new ways of expressing themselves through creative drama. By stepping into the narratives of their favorite stories, and taking on characters’ roles as their own, children move from being observers to active participants in reading and storytelling.”

results My four year old daughter is definitely the drama queen these days, so the idea of a creative play kit was immediately appealling to me.  I explained the concept to Lily and let her go on Pipperoos website with me to select her character.  She chose Julie the Jelly!

In addition to the costume (which was very well made), we received a beautifully illustrated Sea Play story which included game ideas for parents or teachers.  Lily especially liked the “Swim or Stop” game!  After we finished playing a few games, Lily sat in my lap as we read the story.  With no encouragement from me, at the end of the book, Lily jumped up and wanted to act out Julie the Jelly’s part.  She spent about 30 minutes asking questions about the storyline and jellyfish.  It was really entertaining!

summary

Lily thoroughly enjoyed playing with her Pipperoo!  I would highly reccommend this product to parents of kids that starting to read.  It greatly encouraged Lily to not only read the words, but understand the story.
