Kikkoman Recipe for Soy Brined Turkey: Review and Giveaway

hypothesis Kikkoman products will assist me in making my very first turkey absolutely incredible and help me show my family that Mom can do more than boil water!

materials Kikkoman supplied me with the following products:  $25 AMEX gift card, Kikkoman’s Naturally Brewed Soy Sauce, Kikkoman apron, recipe for savory turkey brine and an assortment of Kikkoman sauces to assist with preparing leftovers.  About Kikkoman:

kikkomanlogoSince 1957, KIKKOMAN SALES USA, INC., the marketing company for Kikkoman products to the retail, foodservice and food manufacturing industries, has expanded from its corporate headquarters in San Francisco, California, to seven regional sales offices. results For someone who barely has enough skills in the kitchen to scramble an egg or make grilled cheese sandwiches, the task of roasting a turkey is a daunting one.  So, when Kikkoman offered me the chance to do a “practice Thanksgiving,”  I thought it would be an excellent chance to step out of my comfort zone and try something new.

This project was off to a rough start when I defrosted my first turkey only to realize is was spoiled. I ran back to the store, purchased turkey #2 and started over very relieved that I didn’t serve a nice helping of food poisoning to my family!

kikkomansoyI will admit that I am not a fan of Soy Sauce.  Actually, I usually avoid Chinese restaurants because it just isn’t my favorite food.  So, when Kikkoman suggested I use Soy Sauce to brine my first turkey, I was more than skeptical.  You can find the recipe I used to brine my turkey on Kikkoman’s HomeCooks website.

The recipe was very easy and smelled wonderful as I brined the turkey overnight in the fridge.  The next day, I simply rinsed the turkey and placed in the oven at 325.  It took almost 4 hours to thoroughly cook my turkey breast (I actually kicked up the oven to 350 for the last hour), but it smelled and looked divine.  When the turkey came out of the oven, my husband let out an “Ooooooooo!”  I have to say that I even impressed myself!

001

The turkey did not have a Soy Sauce flavor at all, but it was the juiciest turkey I have ever tasted!  In fact,  the sage in the recipe was the dominant flavor to me.  My family gobbled up the turkey (pun intended) with smiles on their faces and I gained some confidence in the kitchen!  Success!

summary

I never would have thought of using Kikkoman products to prepare a turkey, so this assignment was an eye opening experience.  Not only did Kikkoman provide an excellent recipe for a savory turkey brine, but they also provided me with wonderful recipes for turkey leftover ideas such as Turkey Fried Rice!
