Cheap Cookie Cutters: Review and Giveaway

hypothesis Christmas Cookie Cutters will be a great way to add that special touch to the “Cookies in a Jar” I am creating for my daughter’s holiday teacher gifts this year.

materials One 4 piece holiday cookie cutter set from Cheap Cookie Cutters, cookie mixture, quart sized mason jar and some holiday ribbon! About Cheap Cookie Cutters:

gingerbread_woman_cookie_cutter_small “Although you can probably find a “star” or “heart” cookie cutter for less money on other sites, you will not find a “vintage Mickey Mouse”, “batman”, and “golden retriever” cookie cutter on the same site anywhere else online.  Bottom line is that in the past, if you wanted all 3, you had to search for 3 different sites, pay for shipping 3 different times, and enter your credit card information 3 different times, and triple your chances of having at least one of the cutters lost.  With our site, you save on shipping, you save on time (searching and entering info) when you order several cutters at once, and you save on risk that one or more would get lost or not arrive in time.”

hypothesis Between my two daughters’ schools, daycares, and extracurricular activities, I have 12  teachers to buy for at Christmastime!  While I love each one of them, the holidays can get quite pricey.  This year, I decided to make “Cookies in a Jar” for each teacher and adorn the mason jar with a cookie cutter and some holiday ribbon.  After searching for the perfect cookie cutters, I realized that they can be quite pricey when you have to buy 12 of them!  But, I found a great deal on 13 mini cutters (only $24.99) at Cheap Cookie Cutters!

IMG_4702

I actually received the 4 piece Christmas Cookie Cutter set for review and decided to use them to begin my project.  It didn’t take long at all to assemble the ingredients and place the mixture in the mason jars.  I added some holiday ribbon and the cookie cutter as the finishing touch! I think they came out incredibly cute!

summary

UNO Moo Preschool Game: Review and Giveaway

hypothesis The UNO Moo Preschool Game by Mattel will be a great way to introduce my preschooler to the concept of board games including taking turns and following directions.

materials

One UNO Moo Preschool Game by Mattel which includes 28 animal and farmer figures plus one Play and Store Barn to keep the pieces neatly in one place.  This game is recommended for ages 3 and over.  About Mattel’s UNO Moo:

mattel Gotta get the critters back in the barn! Round ’em up by matching colors or animals. Is there a blue pig on the roof? Pair it with any blue animal or any color pig. Or use a farmer figure — he’s wild and matches anything. The first player to get all their figures back in the barn wins the game!  This game helps preschoolers learn about colors and matching.

hypothesis We have played a small amount of board games with Lily in the past and quite honestly, she loses interest pretty fast.  She hasn’t really been patient enough to take turns and the concept of the games has been either too easy or over her head.  But, UNO Moo, at first glance, looked like it would be right up her alley!  UNO Moo peaked her interest immediately because of the adorable figures of the farm animals and the farmer.

unomoobig

Each player picks 5 figures from the barn and hides them behind their haystack (similar to hiding your hand of cards).  Each figures displays a different color.  Players take turns matching colors and animals which returns their animals to the barn.  If your opponent plays a skunk, you have to pick two animals from the barn! Lily completely understood the concept of the game and she began to learn strategy.  She didn’t mind waiting her turn to play because the actions of the other players (Mom and Dad) directly affected what animal she chose to place in play.  She actually won 2 out of the 3 games we played….and I didn’t let her win!

summary

The UNO Moo Preschool Game from Mattel was a very entertaining and educational game for my 4 year old daughter.  The animal figures were adorable (Lily liked the puppy), and I loved the fact that the animals can be stored in the barn so pieces do not get lost.  This game can be purchased directly from Mattel for $20.99 with FREE shipping on all orders!  This game would make an excellent holiday gift for any preschooler!

hypothesis Finding a quiet toy to occupy the girls while we sit at a restaurant waiting for a table or our food can be quite challenging!  They both get bored with the traditional colors and washable markers we usually bring along.  When GlammaTOYS asked me to review the Scratchin’ Fashion Deluxe Kit which includes over 150 Scratchin’ Fashion stickers, 8 dress up models in various scenes, 8 stands and two wooden tools for scratchin’, I knew it would be an instant HIT!

IMG_4701

We took the kit to a local seafood restaurant and let Lily work her magic.  She placed the stickers on the models and began to scratch away the coating which reveals a sparkly multicolor pattern underneath.  She loved accessorizing the models with earrings, purses and necklaces, too!  This product kept her occupied until the food arrived and for days afterwards!  In fact, we took the kit to a Doctor appointment the next day, and another little girl came over and wanted to watch Lily play with it.  Stickers and sparkly things are definitely a winning combination for four year olds! LOL!

hypothesis The Early Moments subscription program will be a great way to encourage early literacy and interest in reading in my preschooler.

materials One three month Early Moments subscription featuring Dr. Seuss which includes an “I Love Reading” totebag, and three Dr. Seuss titles.  Two additional monthly mailings will include two more Dr. Seuss books each.  About Early Moments:

EM_logo Early Moments may be a new name to you, but we’ve been publishing children’s book clubs for more than 45 years. We’re proud to support some of America’s most prestigious brands, including Dr. Seuss™, Disney, and Baby Einstein®.
Our parent company, which is headquartered in Norway, was founded in 1965 by a young journalist who was looking for guidance in caring for his newborn. He brought together child development experts and published a guide entitled Spesbarnsboken, which he gave to new mothers through hospitals. Now in its 42nd edition, The Baby Book has been continuously published throughout Europe. In all those years, we’ve learned a lot about kids, parents, and why reading is one of the most important things you can do with your child.

By reading with your child every day, making sure he has relevant and engaging books, and setting an example as a reader, you can help promote early literacy. You can prepare your child for a lifetime of learning and enjoyment.”

hypothesis Lily entered preschool this Fall and has been doing amazingly well with letter recognition and sounds, so I knew I had a reader just waiting to emerge.  The trick is finding something to motivate her to try and gaining confidence.  The Early Moments book club is a fantastic way to get Lily excited read!  When her new books arrived in the mail, her face lit up as she thumbed through the pages of her first book, “The Cat in the Hat” by Dr Seuss.

Photobucket
We sat down to read it together and I encouraged her to use her letter sounds to sound out some of the simple words….and she DID IT!  Pretty soon, she was reading this entire book…ALONE!  I can officially say that I have a reader now!  The look of pride on Lily’s face was incredible.  She is already looking forward to the next shipment of books.

summary

Growing Tree Toys: Review

hypothesis The Slice and Bake Cookie Dough Set by Melissa and Doug from Growing Tree Toys will be great way to foster pretend play in both of  my daughters and will require them to work together to create the perfect cookie!

materials The Slice and Bake Cookie Set by Melissa and Doug (which includes 12 sliceable cookies, 18 toppings, oven mitt, spatula, knife and baking sheet), and two girls ready to bake in their little kitchen.     About Growing Tree Toys:

images

We are more than just a website full of wonderful educational toys – we are a family-owned retail institution in our hometown of State College, PA! For over 30 years, our brick and mortar store has been changing the way children play by providing them with the highest quality toys available. After 25 years of selling toys to only our local customers, we “opened” GrowingTreeToys.com in late 2003, aiming to provide the same excellent toys and excellent service that has made us successful for years.

GrowingTreeToys.com is more than just a toy website – it’s the perfect virtual representation of our store, offering customers the amazing service, wonderful toys and robust features they deserve while shopping online. Featuring a carefully chosen, well-rounded toy selection, unique product details and descriptions, great information on play, helpful suggestions for gift givers, the best gift finder available, and so much more, GrowingTreeToys.com is truly a specialty toy website with the health and happiness of children at heart.

results About two years ago, we purchased a little wooden play kitchen for our oldest daughter, Lily.  She has always loved it, but now, with the birth of our second daughter, the two girls play in the kitchen constantly.  They loved to create new recipes and serve my husband and I their fabulous creations.  So, when Growing Tree Toys provided me with the opportunity to select a toy for review, I knew the girls would just love the Melissa and Doug Slice and Bake Cookie Set.

IMG_4695

Growing Tree Toys provides a huge selection of educational toys, and I certainly believe that pretend play is a wonderful way to learn about the world around you.  The girls had a great time slicing the roll of cookie dough, arranging the sliced cookies on a baking sheet (held in place by velcro), placing the cookies in the oven, decorating the baked cookies and serving them to anyone who was willing to pretend with them.  The looks of pride on their faces as we all commented on how much we loved the cookies made this toy an absolute HIT in our home.

Paperspring Holiday Cards: Review and Giveaway

I love Christmas for many reasons, but one of the main reasons I love Christmas is getting Christmas cards.  I love to see how our friends’ children have grown, and I proudly display the cards we receive so everyone who visits can admire the people we love.

The only thing I don’t like about Christmas cards is doing my own!  However, my attitude changed this year when I was lucky enough to be able to review Paperspring Cards! After getting my kids to cooperate for a photo (read:  bribe them) I went to the Paperspring site and checked out what they had to offer.  No cheesy snowmen here!  Their photo holiday cards are elegant and classic.  In other words, to die for.  I spent forever looking and could not make up my mind with so many beautiful choices.  I finally settled on one, and uploading my photo and personalizing my text was a snap!  Shipping was lightning fast and just a few days later I had my cards.  I have card-hopped for the last few years, trying out different services but I can tell you that the Paperspring cards are by far the nicest in quality I have ever gotten.  I cannot wait to send them out this year!

I love this one. No, that's not me and my family!

I love this one. No, that's not me and my family!

This was another one I loved. Precious!

This was another one I loved. Precious!

Holiday cards are not all Paperspring has to offer!  You can announce your new baby,  invite your friends to a graduation, baptism, or shower, and more!  Paperspring even offers personalized stationery.  One of the really cool things that Paperspring has to offer is Sticky Stock! Similar to a post-it, you can decorate your fridge or other surfaces like never before, leaving no residue behind!  How cool is that!  Want to know something even better?  Paperspring offers FREE shipping, and is a green company!  Thanks, Paperspring!

Happy 70th Birthday Madeline: Review and Giveaway

hypothesis The 2009 release of the 70th Anniversary Madeline doll will be a great way to introduce Lily to this classic children’s book series written by American author, Ludwig Bemelmans.

materials One Madeline 70th Anniversary Doll packaged in a special gift box perfect for collecting.   About the Madeline doll:

madeline70thsmall

Winner of Fall 2009 National Parenting Center Seal of Approval and packaged in a see-through can bag with a pink rope handle, this limited edition collector’s doll is dressed in a delft blue dress adorned with famous Parisian locales from the original book.  Madeline’s beautiful red hair is tied on one side with a satiny blue bow.  Note her lace-trimmed dress with blue accents.  It’s hard to believe anyone dressed so sweetly might wind up in a bit of mischief.  With a bright smile, this plush pose-able doll is sure to be a constant companion.  Madeline stands 13.5” tall.

results I can remember reading the story of Madeline as a little girl and falling in love with the characters.  But with all the new books and story lines, I had forgotten to share this classic story with my own daughter, Lily.  When I was asked to review the plush Madeline doll, the memories came back and I couldn’t wait to read it to her.

002

I chose to review the 70th Anniversary Madeline Doll (she looks GREAT for her age!) mainly because I knew that Lily would love the fact that the clothes are removable and more outfits are available for purchase including a pajama set….and I was right!  Lily loved playing with Madeline but became even more excited when I relayed the story to her.  I think Santa may have to deliver a new outfit for her Madeline toy!

summary

Lily loved playing with her 70th Anniversary Madeline doll!  The removable clothes were a big hit (although the shoes are not removable).  Madeline is more than just a doll…it’s a tradition!  You can find this special edition online at boutiques such as Live and Learn and La Petite Tica for $25.
