Papi’s Picks: SippiGrip and BinkiGrip

Please welcome my friend, Alfonso back to The Not-So-Blog with his very first product review!

papispicks

My wife is very crafty. Some women have Saks or Macy’s . . . she has Michael’s and JoAnn’s. Her creative output is limited only to the amount of yarn she has on hand. It was not unexpected, then, that she announced that she had a great idea to use up extra yarn – cup and binkie tethers!

Our girls were getting to that stage where, after a sip or two, the cup would go over the side and on the ground. Catching a falling cup is difficult . . . even more so when it is two cups flying in different directions. This was a constant occurrence with their binkies as well. She decided to get on the internet and search for patterns and inspiration. It was during this search that we found the SippiGrip and BinkiGrip.

Now, we had purchased other types of binkie tethers before, but they had flaws which lead to their eventual non-use (the limbo that is the bottom of the diaper bag). Most notably, our girls would pull on them until their clamshell grip would come off. The plastic clamshells became chew toys . . . then they would just drop the whole thing. Maya, in particular, figured out how to undo the very small velcro strap and drop the binkie . . . smart kid. This prompted the search for a better tether.

sippigrip3We got two SippiGrips and BinkiGrips to try out while my wife came up with a crochet pattern for the tether. They simply rocked! They make our daily and restaurant feedings so much easier.

From the website:
SippiGrip is durable, washable and grips your child’s cup or bottle for a secure and safe fit! It has a unique design which allows you to adjust the length of the longer strap to correspond with the height of whichever car seat, stroller or highchair you choose.  In addition it is also designed to custom fit any brand or size sippy cup or bottle!

I hate to say is but most products for the girls that I purchase have to pass the “will this make me look like a cool dad?” test. For example, is it hot pink with frills and flowers everywhere? Or is it simple, efficient, durable, and well . . . cool? The BinkiGrip passes with dad-friendly colors.

sippigrip2

First of all, it works. The strong clasp is impossible for a 14 month old to pull off, but doesn’t leave a mark on clothes. It can attach to almost any binkie (we have three different brands). The whole thing is washable and non-toxic. It is much cheaper that a portable binkie washer, and, for twins, it means I don’t have to carry 6 back-up binkies. Finally, and most important to my pediatrician wife, it is short enough not to be choking hazard.

The SippiGrips are a must for any parent. They are just as cool as the BinkiGrips, plus they solve so many needs because they are a multi-tool! We have tethered sippy-cups, snack cups, dolls, books (they had a small handle) teething rings, and various toys. They are also washable and non-toxic, but unlike the BinkiGrip, the SippiGrip is adjustable. This is very useful depending if they are being used on the highchair or the stroller. The grip that holds the cup feels like a soft rubber-like material which holds extremely well. The clasp is two and a half inches of impossible-for-baby-to-undo velcro. Both the SippiGrip and BinkiGrips have stood up well after multiple washings on the delicate cycle.

sippigrip1

We packed four of these on our recent road trip. They helped us keep cups off of fast food floors and kept us from having to “wipe off” dropped toys. The SippiGrips were easy to setup, adjust, and small enough to pack 4 in our limited space of the diaper bag.

When you’re having a baby, there are many products you buy that you eventually never use. There are also products you eventually buy because you never imagined you would need them. The BinkiGrip and SippiGrip are the latter. These are products you can use everyday and make your life so much easier. I like them, the twins like them . . . the only bad thing is my wife needs to find other uses for the spare yarn.

Lose weight with Look Cut!

In about 4 weeks, I am performing on stage with my dance studio. This means that I have to squeeze my 34 year old, 2 kids, haven’t done a sit up in a year self into some tights, fishnets and costume. YIKES! I am actually down to pre-pregnancy weight now, but I could stand to lose about 7 more pounds. I am buckling down now because I am in the home stretch, but I can use all the help I can get!

lookcut

I ran across a great new weight loss site called Dean Tornabean’s Look Cut.  This program is all about VEEP:  the Visual Eating and Exercise Plan.  After reading several great articles, I think they are on to something! For me, some of the most helpful articles include tips on how to curb night eating, using visualization to beat cravings, and stress eating.  There are also some great articles on pregnancy and exercise!

In addition to the articles, there are helpful discussion forums and a reasonably priced shop to buy supplements and nutritional products.  I decided to give it a try and take the in depth survey that will help you determine where your fat is located, your specific dieting needs and optimum caloric intake.

Hopefully, Look Cut will help me stay on track and look great on stage on June 13th!  If I succeed, I’ll even post a picture or two!

Don’t Be Alarmed!

Yes, you are still at The Not-So-Blog!  I am undergoing a site redesign and moving my blog forward with a new concept.  Since I am a Science Geek in real life, I thought I should bring that part of me here to the blog!

I planned on launching the new design in July for my One Year Bloggy Anniversary (can you believe it’s almost been a whole year?!?), but I was so excited about the new concept, and Cat from 3 Kids and Us was so fabulous at bringing it to life, that I just couldn’t wait!

Hope you like the new look!  I will still be bringing you great product reviews and giveaways, but all wrapped up in a pretty new site design and concept!

Thanks for stopping by!  Don’t forget to grab my new button!

Grobag Egg by Keen: Review and Giveaway

Why is it that every single time Summer rolls around, my air conditioning acts up?  Here in South Louisiana, air conditioning is not a luxury, it is a necessity!  We have had the repairman come look at our unit multiple times and they can’t find anything wrong with it.   Fortunately, the air conditioning is cooling most of the house properly, but Lily’s room is a sauna!  I just know that something is not working the way it should and Lily has GOT to be hot at night!

I received a Grobag Egg from Keen Distribution to review and I knew immediately I was going to test it in Lily’s room.  From the website:

The grobag® egg™ color changing digital room thermometer is another clever innovation from the people who brought you grobag® baby sleeping bags.

Room temperature is vital in creating a safe sleeping environment for your baby and should be maintained at 61-67°F to help reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).

keen270

The grobag® egg™ glows yellow if the room temperature is within recommended guidelines (61-67°F). If the room temperature is outside this range, the grobag® egg™ acts as a visual reminder for you to take action to cool or heat the room, or to adjust the baby’s bedding or clothing.”

I think this is such a great product to help ease the minds of new parents.  I know when my girls were little, I was so concerned that they would overheat in their swaddle blanket!  But now that they are older, I still have those same concerns and was so happy to have the Grobag Egg to confirm my suspicions.

After reading how to use the grobag, and setting up the product, the egg changed to red almost immediately….complete with a little frowny face.  I knew we had to take action to cool off her room!  I brought in an extra fan and changed her blanket to something more lightweight.

I will be showing this picture to the air condition service man when he comes out AGAIN next week!  Our A/C was set on 72 degrees!

Do you have a need for this digital room thermometer?  Keen Distribution has generously offered a Grobag Egg to one lucky Not-So-Blog reader!

Ready for Summer!

Today is Lily’s very last day of Pre-K(3)!  I can’t believe how the time has flown this year!  I am bringing her to her class picnic today to celebrate with her friends.

0051Last Day of School!

Recently, she came home with a little “yearbook” that the teacher put together.  It included lots of artwork, pictures and surveys.  I think the questionnaires were the funniest part!

My Mom is:  24 years old (whoo hoo….she thinks I am 10 years younger!)

I want to be:  a cheerleader

If I were a farmer, I would raise:  dogs

I wish:  My Mom would take me to the mall (aka buy me something)

My favorite this about school is:  playing with play-doh

This year, I learned about:  butterflies

The book was just precious (and included a picture she drew of our family.  I was ALL legs and my husband was ALL feet! LOL!).  I admit, I got all choked up looking at how much she progressed over the year.  I can’t imagine what next year will bring!  But for now…..

……IT’S SUMMER!!!!
