Review and Giveaway: Exergen TemporalScanner

Using an ear thermometer to take an infant’s temperature:  difficult

Using an ear thermometer to take an infant’s temperature who has an ear infection:  impossible

Finding the Exergen TemporalScanner:  a godsend!

My girls are no strangers to ear infections.  We have spent many nights in tears trying to get an accurate temperature reading with an ear thermometer.  Fortunately, the Family Review Network introduced me to the Exergen TemporalScanner, a non-invasive thermometer which uses infared technology to measure temperature with one quick and easy stroke across the forehead.  In addition to being easier, the temporal scanner has been proven to be more accurate than ear thermometers.

How is this possible?  The process is explained at the website:

First it scans like a video camera, capturing naturally emitted infrared heat from the arterial blood supply at about 1000 “frames” per second, locking in the highest temperature it senses and;

Second, at the same time, a patented system measures the ambient temperature of the site where the temperature is being taken. The patented “arterial heat balance” (AHB) software then synthesizes the two separate readings to accurately determine and display body temperature.”

exergen Using the temporal scanner was so easy.  To use, you simply press the scan button and touch the sensor to the middle of the forehead.  Keeping the button pressed, move the scanner across the forehead to the temple and release.  Last week, Lily was sick with a stomach virus, so I had the opportunity to really test out the product.  What I really loved is that I could take her temperature while she was sleeping without waking her up!  Now that she has recovered, she agreed to let me show you how the temporal scanner works.

It really is THAT easy!

I also wanted to mention that when I took Lily to the pediatrician, I was surprised to see that the practice uses the very same Exergen Temporal Scanner! Now I KNOW that I will have the same temperature reading as my pediatrician.

Want to try it out?  One lucky reader will win an Exergen TemporalScanner of their very own!

  78. I would love to have this because it is so easy to use, doesn’t annoy the child and I am a first time mom so this is a must.

  79. Jennifer M says:

I learned that this is a totally non-invasive means of taking a temperature and that it is sold at Costco (my favorite store!) As a mom of 4, including a four-month-old baby, I could definitely get a lot of use out of this thermometer. I especially love the fact that when my little ones are feeling bad and want to sleep, I can take their temperature without disturbing them.

I remember seeing this thermometer at the hospital and thinking it was awesome! Thanks for the great giveaway opportunity.

  80. I really need one of these! My son gets ear infections pretty frequently and this would be awesome to monitor his temperature quickly and quietly without disturbing him too much during the night.

  81. I would love to get this because my son is 6 months old. The few times I’ve used the thermometer we have on him (under his armpit), it has timed out before it got a good reading–and that was about after 2 minutes!! It has not been fun to hold a crying squirmy boy still long enough to take his temperature! This would make it a more reliable reading and be much quicker–thus saving my sanity!!!

  82. Deborah Wellenstein says:

Excellent product! Babies really hate rectal thermometers-who can blame them! I would love to have this-thanks!

  83. I’m a Pediatric Neonatal Nurse and can you believe I do not have one of these? I think EVERY home NEEDS one, however. The Exergen Temporal Scanner removes the guess work out of taking a temp!

All the “what if’s” are removed!
The OLD Fashioned Thermometers cause you to wonder the following:
Do I have the thermometer under the tongue?
    Was it in long enough?
    Did I do it right?
How do ya clean this thing?

And, the OLD Fashioned kinds of thermometers are intimidating to a new mom taking a rectal temp, lets face it!!!

That’s why I love the Exergen TemporalScanner!!!!

  89. I desperately need one of these. My son runs SUPER high fevers and doesn’t do well with the oral thermometer. Because he runs such high ones (103.5 on average) we need accuracy and it seems very inappropriate to do rectal, even though it is the most accurate other than this product.

  90. I would love to try this because my little man spikes high fevers really fast, so when he’s sick we’re constantly trying to take his temperature…Not so fun with a toddler! This sounds like just what we need! Thanks for the chance to win one!

I want to try it because it’s quick and easy.

  213. I would love this temp scanner. With two infant boys, anything that will not disturb them is a blessing. They fuss so much with an armpit temp reading. I like the accuracy of just a swipe on the forehead.
