Today’s featured Mardi Gras parade is Krewe du Monde which parades in LaPlace, LA (not too far from New Orleans). One of the most famous New Orleans “landmarks” is Cafe du Monde. You have not lived until you have sat outdoors eating beignets and sipping cafe au lait!

In Greek Mythology the nine Muses were the daughters of Zeus. They are the Greek goddesses who presided over the arts and sciences. But in New Orleans, they are the all female Krewe that has over 1100 members and was formed in 2000. The Krewe of Muses has a vision which is to tap into and recognize the local artistic and cultural resources of the community.

This is my dog, Callie. She is mostly a beagle and is completely overweight (due to medicine she takes for her seizures).
A few things you should know about Callie:
1. She sheds.
2. She is not allowed to get on the sofa.
3. She is stubborn.
4. She does NOT listen (as you can see in the above picture).
I can tell when Callie sneaks a nap on the sofa because it is covered in dog hair. I despise vacuuming the sofa…..seriously….worst.chore.ever. So, I was more than thrilled to try out the new Pledge Fabric Sweeper for Pet Hair!
How it works: Simply slide it side to side in short strokes. Rollers rotate back and forth to lift and trap unsightly pet hair. One Pledge™ Fabric Sweeper picks up as much pet hair as 145 sticky roller sheets.
Great for:
- Upholstered couches and chairs—so you can sit back and relax.

Directions for use:
- Slide side-to-side on upholstered furniture using moderate pressure. Use short strokes of about 8-12 inches in each direction (as indicated by the arrows on the sweeper).

My first impression of the Fabric Sweeper was that it looked too good to be true! This little thing can’t possibly work as well as my vacuum! Once I managed to wake up Callie and get her off the sofa (did I mention that she doesn’t listen?), I tried it out and was more than pleasantly surprised. By simply moving the Pledge Fabric Sweeper from side to side, I was able to quickly remove all of the pet hair from my microfiber couch! I am in love! I no longer have to drag out the heavy, bulky vacuum for quick touch ups!

The Krewe of Thor was formed in 1974 and consisted of 500 riders. It is the first Krewe in Jefferson Parish to consist of both male and female members. This Krewe is named for the Norse god of thunder and rain (but they always hope that it doesn’t rain on their parade!).

Think Thin Thursday: Tyson Edition

Is it Thursday ALREADY?? This weeks Think Thin Thursday post is brought to you by Tyson Fully Cooked Chicken Breast and Steak Strips!
In order for me to stay on track (which has REALLY been hard the last few weeks), I absolutely MUST be prepared for the week and have EASY dinner recipes on the menu. You know that FAST does NOT always equal EASY, so I struggle to find a happy medium.
Fortunately, Tyson wanted to share with my readers some great new recipes with their Fully Cooked Chicken and Steak Strips that are fast, easy, AND healthy! These recipes were created by Food Network Host Robin Miller exclusively for Tyson Foods. How can you go wrong?!?
Tyson says, “The strips are lean, non-breaded, recipe-ready protein that dramatically cuts down on preparation time, giving busy families a lighter, quicker and more convenient dinnertime solution. Great for time-honored classic dishes and family favorite meals, Tyson® Fully Cooked Chicken and Steak Strips are an excellent source of protein that makes cooking light, delicious meals a snap.“
I thought I would share with you all the recipe that I will be trying this week:
Chicken Parmesan Casserole (serves 4, prep time=30 minutes)
Ingredients
1 pound whole wheat pasta
2 packets (6 ounces each) Tyson® Fully Cooked Grilled Chicken Breast Strips
¾ cup prepared no-salt added tomato sauce (pasta sauce or pizza sauce)
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, regular or part-skim
3 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese
2 tablespoons Panko bread crumbs
Pinch salt and ground black pepper
Preparation Instructions
- Cook whole wheat pasta according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Arrange chicken breast strips in the bottom of a shallow baking dish. Pour tomato sauce over the chicken and sprinkle mozzarella cheese over the tomato sauce.
- In a small bowl, combine the parmesan cheese and bread crumbs. Mix well and sprinkle the mixture over the mozzarella cheese.
- Bake for 20 minutes, or until the top of the casserole is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly, and season to taste with salt and black pepper. Let stand 5 minutes before serving.
- Divide whole wheat pasta among four individual bowls, spoon casserole mixture over the top and serve.

The Krewe of Diana was the first womens organization to parade at night in Jefferson Parish.
Their namesake, Diana, is the goddess of the moon in Roman mythology. This Krewe was founded in 1949 and had approximately 200 members. Unfortunately, this Krewe no longer parades.

Mardi Gras Mambo Day 2: Krewe of Little Rascals CONTEST CLOSED

The first parade to roll in Metairie is usually the Krewe of Little Rascals. Founded in 1983, this childrens Krewe patterns itself after the adult Carnival clubs. Parading down a 4 mile route, this year’s theme was “Sights and Sounds of America.”
My family actually went out and saw this parade on Sunday afternoon! It was a gorgeous day and we had a blast!
